According to the newest info the game is coming out on the 24th of August. If everything goes right that is. Else it will be postponed till february.
So yes, the points in the army is for creating a pregame buzz. You can buy the game either through the homepage ( http://elementalgame.com/ ) or through their portal called Impulse ( http://www.impulsedriven.com/ ) which is a portal in the like of Steam. You can obviously only pre-order it as of yet.
Hope that helps ease your confusion!
Edit: ::at Murteas:: Uh yah! And by a single second ![]()
You can pre-order Elemental:War of Magic from Stardock by using impulse. That way you can download the beta before release to help us test the game (it is not like other betas, but is truly being tested by beta-tester who give feedback, etc.). However, the elemental army "game" is simply to create pre-release excitement, buzz, etc. for the game, which should be released in either August or next February depending on when it is ready.
Welcome to the community.

Note that if you pre-order and download the beta, it's not a "demo". You'll be charged. As a warning, some people aren't aware of how Stardock pre-orders work. ![]()
If you're interested in a real demo, there will be one sometime after the games release, tentatively set for August.
I would also add that being a Elemental Army recruit does not require you to preorder, or beta test.
Just share your love of the game with others. Hell share your issues as well.
This army promotion here is more along the lines of a three fold multi-staged attack.
1. Reward fans for participating, and doing what they already were doing.
2. Generate buzz and awareness as people who care, share their personal experiences with others.
3. And to get folks to look into the alternative digital distribution network, Impulse: Reactor. When folks find out how easy it is to use, and the similarities to Steam. They'll have other options, and that they'll also gain an understanding, that Stardock doesn't release their own exclusive games on the Steam Platform, or any other Digital Distribution (DD) method.
That being the case, myself, I've preordered, and will be beta-testing this for the home stretch as it were. And I'll share my enthusiasm, or lack there just as fairly as possible.
Which seeing this game is truly something that sits in my own heart, Fantasy Strategy, Turn Based 4X RPG influenced game. Yeah, I'm down for that.
