Elemental Army Updates

Elemental Army Updates

Since the launch of the Elemental Army promotion we have seen great participation.  Although the overwhelming majority of participants have been submitting valid links for their participation, there have also been some trying to game the system.

With that we have made some changes (thanks to kestral2040) for the dev work).  These include updates so it is easier to see who is submitting duplicate links and such, among other admin-side improvements.

We are also changing the way Digg submissions are being handled.  From this point on points for Digging an article will only be rewarded for Digg links that have been submitted and placed in an article/news by an admin.  For instance, an admin would make a posting with a Digg link that would be used for Digging if need be.

Thanks for your participation so far, and have fun!

Update:

We are going to sticky and use this thread to post all updates going forward so it is easy to reference.

June 10th update:

  • New admin auditing tools
  • Improvements to leaders tabs
  • Top quests tab now features highest scoring individual submission

Well one brush fire put out. A sticky like this is going to get a decent amount of traffic, being up at the top. And now I'm going to get some sleep, us 3rd shifters need to do that sometimes!

I hope you all have a great day!

Still in k4 th place. With the drop in points I'll have to work a bit harder on the projects, probably even add one more. But it will be worth it.

Seems a shame to give all the love to Digg given that Stumbleupon and Reddit are both really strong communities with SU being the type to slowly build up and Reddit to provide half the material for the Digg top users.

Not to complain but simply note. You guys have been nice enough to give me 10 pts for discovering SU content and thumbing it up...haven't had any so far receive more than 300 views or so as my subscribers are mainly scientists which barring the Cern postdocs aren't the biggest gamers. But, if Stardock made an effort or put some advertising via SU you'd reach millions and the various lightweight studies have shown that SU has a much bigger impact over time than Digg with SU reaching people even years later while Digg reaches a fever pitch then fades fast. Just a suggestion.

So my facebook friend was rejected and I couldn't find out why...do I need to have you as a friend so you can see my site?  Did I post the wrong link or friend the wrong page?

Thanks, and thanks for the list of dig links...now to figure out various ways to mention the game on my anime podcast...

For facebook credit, you must link your own profile and the "likes" section needs to be visible to all so we can see the Elemental link.

Thanks..so the beginning of this month is not recent enough for digging stuff huh.  Ah well.  Still up in the 52nd rank now...my climb continues!

Can you facebook like the page on gamespot for the game?  Have it tracked and on my wishlist and have my facebook account connected to my gamespot account...but can't seem to find a like button.

Hey Kryo,

Can you put a realistic "Cutoff" date for those likes, because I've been "Liking" Every Elemental I've seen. (But was also doing it BEFORE the army came about.)

So by that token, and like the previous Diggs, could you indicate a relative one, or will you be going through them and giving the 10 or so that have already been "Liked" on Facebook?

Any information here would be helpful.

Facebook-wise only the main elemental page is eligible AFAIK. We're looking into the gamespot thing and should have news on that when we're ready.

Diggs need to be ones from within the past couple of weeks at most (even that is probably overly generous). Any more than that and there is not really any chance they'll gain any benefit from it. So yes, that means that latecomers to army may not get credit for digging things that others did in the past. There's no shortage of things to do to make up the difference, though.

Hey Kryo,

I've submitted several "Likes" from my facebook page, by putting in the elemental facebook page but also indicating the particular posts I "Liked", while also including my real life name.

http://www.facebook.com/elementalgame

From what I understand, you guys will be able to in theory, look at our name, and cross reference it with those who "Like" it so you can then verify that Right?

And As far as a realistic cut off date for how far back the "Likes" will go for Facebook is there any news on that front? So that way people aren't putting like for months and months worth of stuff.

Thanks for the update on the diggs...now to just win a beta account on voodo.  On the "take a picture of yourself with your elemental stuff" um...we don't have any official elemental stuff yet..so should we make some or am I missing something here?  Thanks!

Zaldar, what I and TOWDrac have done is print off a logo (which you can get on the elemental page here), and then took pictures with that. If you can, laminate it--it makes it easier to attach it to things (but be sure to get permission first, I got my ears blistered by someone who runs a tourist attraction here for even thinking about temporarily taping something to their attractions) and to hold it on a windy day. After that, we went to various places and took photos. Ashenguar, I believe, handed out flyers at a Ren Faire it looked like. He's also made a pencil holder (which looked really nice) and a ... gah, I forget.

The idea is to be as creative as you can, using your talents. And I think they are also looking for "interesting" places (which I lucked out here because we have a lot of tourist traps that are pretty interesting) and for getting the word out, ala the flyers idea (which was brilliant and I wish I had thought of it first). Evidently, Drac's still got some ideas forthcoming, and I can't wait to see what he's got in store because his "Elementalmobile" made me lol.

Hey, I think this whole "Join the Elemental Army" thing is a great approach to advertising!

I mentioned this to a bunch of my friends and they said they'd be interested in trying the game with me and they'd even look into signing up for this website.

I"m really looking forward to completing these "quests" and getting points.

Can't wait for the release! :)

Possible Idea for People:  Buy a poster or make one and give it to the employees at a local game store so they can pin it up on a wall or behind the counter.

For Facebook likes, points are being awarded mostly for "liking" external articles such as this one from IGN recently.  For most people, if you "like" this page then it will show on your Facebook profile.

I have to admit to not understanding what can and can't be liked.  Take Gorstagg as an example (I don't have any beef with him, its just the profile I have open), he has http://www.facebook.com/elementalgame listed 17 times in a row.  When I tried to do what I thought was the same thing they were all rejected.  I'm just confused over what gets rejected and what doesn't.

If I can see your profile or your name clearly on something external that was "liked" then points are awarded.

Yeah, nothing against Gorstagg, but it was really confusing how his links are handled. It was really unclear what he was being awarded points for since it went back to the Elemental: WoM facebook page. So, now I feel half an idiot for submitting stuff that got rejected because I had no idea what he was being awarded points for.

(Sorry if this double posts--the forums went boom on me)

There are several people who moderate the points, and when there are 200+ submissions just for Facebook, it can get confusing.

Ya, I could see that.=)  I don't envy the task you guys set up for yourselves.

Hey All, I have no problems with the questions, so no worries.

The part about Elemental and Facebook, what I did was ask initially how they were going to be processed, what would be the best way. And in my case, I saw another person had a good number of them just listing the elemental facebook page. And since I hadn't gotten a specific response here, I went with what I saw.

So, what I did then was submit all my likes up to a certain point, and since they all were listed for that Facebook page, and each one didn't have an external link just to that post by the page.

So what I did was submit it to that "Link" but in the message area, I included specifically my real name, and then specifically the post on the page, that I had "Liked".

Which in general was why I was asking how they wanted us to do it. Because I could see confusion possibly happeng, as each post on facebook didn't have a corollary page to link to directly.

And without further information, and a way for us to click on the actual submitted ticket as it were for review, I couldn't see any other way other than to submit it.

The easiest way for both us to verify, and for you to submit, is to post a screenshot like this. For anyone concerned that one person got points for not an exact link, it really evens out because they won't get double credit for posting it again.

End of Island's quote

Thank you Island Dog for the clarification. I guess the other side we can also use in this endeavor too is to also post a comment, within the post there.. which would then also contain our name and pic, and thus also avoid anyone else duplicating the picture by cropping it or anything like it.

But thank you very much for updating this like that.

Oh I thought screenshots were frowned upon.  That helps quiet a bit, thanks.
