Prefer Fallout 1 in all its broken glory.  I think the most interesting part was that there were several classes of finish (complete victory, the master lives but mutant army destroyed, etc.) that you could only really discover if you were talking over with friends and you're like: yeah I killed the army base and it was awesome!  Your friend responds: but that's not the end of the game! ... best moment, period.

Also, I think there's a general gaming topic group you could move this into if you edited the first post.

What a stupid topic...Fallout 1 and 2 are completely unplayable due to its completely obsolete graphics, animations and screen resolution.

Unfortunatly I played Fallout 2 long before I had the chance to play Fallout 1. So I was much more hooked to F2 though playing F1 even years later was a blast.

I'm sure a lot of people might disagree but I can't say I didn't have a lot of fun playing F3. Yes yes, I thought a lot of the atmosphere and the humor that made the first two games amazing weren't quite there but still, the game is so huge both in size and scope of gameplay that I just can't say it wasn't fun. In short, even though I can't say F3 was one of my favorite games of all time, I still felt it was a great game.

I have to agree with edpfister. F3 was a better-looking game, not really a better game than F1 & 2.

Fallout 1 and 2 were great games. Character progression was one of the best (skills should have cost a different number per points as they weren't equally useful, but perks were brilliant). I think combat system of that style is more interesting in tactical JRPGs (like Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics or Gladius), but it isn't bad in Fallout either. Setting is 5+

I didn't even try Fallout 3. I was disappointed with Oblivion (i played Daggerfall and Morrowind, and i liked them more at the time of their release), so i didn't want to be disappointed with Fallout 3 either.

I really can say Fallout 1, is one of my All time favorite games. Fallout 2, was a fantastic continuation of the series. Both were just great games, (though not with their .. ahem bugs).

As far as Fallout 3, I've not completed it due to graphics glitch, and a bit of boredom. But that being said, I think it's a wonderful game for what it is, an artists recreation of a beloved series in a different perspective. 

Different, with it's own very strong gotcha moments. (How about not realizing that in the PC you can press your tab key to get light), and playing the game without a light, at all for your character.. moving through the darkness being hunted by rabid ghouls. That's some great stuff. And the game did a fantastic job of making you realize, the end of the world would suck. There is nothing really redeemable about the habitants of that post eastern society. Much less nostalgic as it were.

Also, I felt 3 went a bit overboard with upping the cheese of the alternate 50's future. Just felt a bit too dominating.

Now, that said.. 1 & 2 really shone strong. 3 Shone with a new light, strong, but not really making you feel like you reconnected with an old friend. But a new friend, different, and not all together strange, but not bad either. Just an artists recreation. One of many proposed ones over the years. So, good deal for what it was.

Sorry for rambling on in here on this, off topic subject. But I can honestly say I hope, and have no doubts that Elemental: War of Magic will be something I look back on 5 years later and find myself still playing, and enjoying all the new expansions, and preparations for the sequel.
