Impulse question

Hi ...i did research but there were a few questions i could not find a clear answer to...

so.. when i purchase Elemental from Impulse....

1. is there a download limit or something annoying as that?

2. after 20 years will i be able to download the game from there and play it?

... i hate cds/DVDs ... they break... max lifetime is 15 20 years ... if you are very lucky.. I think the point of digital download is that the game stays yours for life :)

3. if i buy elemental from the local store (there is only one since its not a very good business here...) can i register my copy at Impulse and download if i want to ?

thanks

1. No Download Limit.

2. If Stardock Still Exists, in all likelihood yes.

3. Yes, in fact, it's the only way to get patches, which Stardock pours love into.

Great!!! i couldn't be happier...

now a few more popped up in my mind....

1. do i have to be online to play singleplayer? ... i think it was NO .. but to make sure

2. do i have to be online to play LAN?

3. Steam(sux) doesnt allow modding.... every time the game is launched it restores the files to the original state... so any mods i made go to waste.. i hate that... i love modding... and i will never buy from them just for that...

so does impulse do the same with the files as steam?

thanks :)

"so does impulse do the same with the files as steam?"

i guess when there is an update it may overwrite but thats to be expected.. i can easily compare and put my mods again...

My Left 4 Dead mods folder begs to differ. I think you're talking about patching the executables, and if they patch the files, you'd still need to update your mod anyway, if only to make sure it still fits where its supposed to. Personally I like the fact that they keep the game up to date automatically, although I can see where that would be frustrating for custom patching.

Anyway, you should have a look at Sins of a Solar Empire, another Impulse game. There are plenty of mods out for it, and it only updates itself when you tell it to.

1. No

2. No

3. No.

However, on 3 you need to use the mods with files from the mod folder. If you just modify the game files they will be over-written when you download any new patch. I think that's your problem with Steam and why it keeps over-writing the files you change.

i guess impulse is great!

yes on a new patch thats to be expected but steam does something else.. it checks on game startup if the files are what they are supposed to be and if they are not... it overwrites... and it cannot be disabled

this was ... and still is... a huge problem on Half-life 2 Garry's mod... the game has a mods folder but the core files cannot be touched :(

anyway thank :)
