i dont really see an august release. I mean first public beta coming up and bound to be lots of request on combat and exploring and such. Going to take time to tweak or erase and redo alot of gaming mechanics.

At this point in the project, we're not really looking to "redo" game mechanics. That is what the 9 month Beta 1 phase was for.

We can certainly tweak/balance things but there's no scenario where we'd create some new combat system or build a new city building system. That sort of thing would come in an expansion pack or sequel.

In beta 1, we worked with the community to hear different ideas on how combat should be done, how cities should be built, how the economy should be done, etc.

The main hold up now is the AI (my part).  Not just in terms of functionality but bugs I introduce while implementing it.

Yes.  My team writes up lots of worker functions for me to make use of. In GalCiv, I had to write those functions myself.

Moreover, since a lot of the AI is data driven, we'll be able to make a lot of tweaks to it from playtesting a lot faster.

Will Beta 2 include tactical battles?  I know that betas 2 and 3 were melded together and I believe beta 3 was going to introduce tactical battles...does this mean its found its way to beta 2 which we will be receiving soon?

No, Beta 3 will have tactical battles, Beta 2 was the multiplayer beta, Beta 3 was what we're going to get in Beta 2, and Beta 4 was tactical battles.

Yeah, that is what I figured.  But Frogboy didn't mention it when he released the FAQ last week indicating that the Beta 2 wouldn't be that week.  It would be nice to have it this week!
