New Resource Dynamic

Forgive me if this has been brought up.

The Conquistadors brought the horse to the Americas and the Indians quickly adapted to use this new resource. That is one of the most blatant examples, but potatoes in Irelend, sugar, cotton, spices, etc. world wide. Some resources should be able to be transpanted intentionally or not to similar environments.

If you have horse and invade someone without it, they can spawn that resource if the environment allows, like the great plains. I don't see why this would not apply to sheep, llama, yams, beans, rice, cows, etc.

Also, how come chickens never get any love as a resource? They are one of the cheapest and easiest sources of protein anywhere! I give thanks for the mighty chicken that gives me eggs, fried chicken, grilled chicken and other chicken recipies too numerous to mention. What is bacon without eggs? It is like a hamburger without fries, perish the thought.

Does anyone think it really took much for most prehistory people to think, wow, they have a long pointy stick that is hard to break! Maybe we should make long pointy sticks too! We will call them, eh.... spears! yeah, spears! People adapt and do it damn fast. Look at China, it was a backwater only a few decades ago and everyone dismissed them. Now they hold treasury notes to the world. Things change, whether you want them to or not.

I would like to see this dynamic in Elemental.

China is the oldest continuous civilization and it was the most advanced for a longer time than most of the empires existed altogether. So IMHO it's a weird choice for such an example. Even if China missed the industrial revolution and wasn't the spearhead of civilization for a small part of it's history, it's not a good reason to call that civilization "backwater".

Err, probably hasn't been brought up because I just don't see how it would work with the uninspired "Global economy" model they're going with.

If there is a good local resources mod this would be an interesting addition.

Sounds interesting, but I don't know how you'd execute it nor what it'd contribute. I'd rather use the development resources to improving other parts of the game.

I think this suggestion applies to Civ5 rather than Elemental, I don't know if there will be such resources in this game.

I want epic fantasy, not chicken management.

Yeah, let's introduce rats, cockroaches, and disease also, to really screw things up as new cultures are introduced to our better way of life.

First, China is a great civ that has lasted eons. I was not disparaging them in any way.If anything, I was trying to explain why at least technology quickly transfers on contact. Just like with Native Americans, I was saying technology and, in the case, resources, can be easily adopted.

While rats, cochroaches and other vermin also spread and cause disease and potentially pandemics, that is not what I was saying. What I am saying is if you attack someone, they will adopt what you attack them with. If that is a natural resource, like horses, and the environment, like the great plains, will boost the chances of making a new resource in a new environment, then it should be considered.

It was just an idea, not a mantra. I obviously didn't and probably still did not explain it well.

It is a good isea, and might be revolutionary for 4x4s.  What you are describing is reverse engineering, adaptation, adoption, and then spreading of culture, language, and technology.

It is realistic, an example:

The spreading of Hellenistic culture with the empire of Alexander the Great. The Hellenistic culture and techs were adapted by the conquered all the way to India.

The adoption of Hellenistic culture and techs by the Romans when they took over Greece and Macedonia.

Cultural absorption and technological spreading through Explorer units perhaps would be another cool way to expand the Trade dynamics so tech doesn"t just have to be traded, nor culture be internal to a nation only.

If this could be implemented in a fun gameplay style for Elemental that would be cool.  Even a mod later using these concepts would be great.
