A nerdy request for the Limited Edition

Like all of you I am eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of Beta 2.  Also, like many of you, I have pre-ordered the Limited Edition and am really excited about all the extra goodies that are to be included.  I grew up on PC Gaming of the late 80s and early 90s where it wasn't unusual for the package to come with a nice, hefty manual or a sprawling cloth map depicting the gameworld.  Nowadays it's a rare treat to see even a detailed, printed manual in the box.  I am glad that Brad and his team at Stardock can relate to this sentiment and have decided to produce a Limited Edition for geeks like me.

Brad detailed the contents of the Limited Edition in one of his journal entries (https://forums.elementalgame.com/377402).  I noticed though that there was no description of the box itself.  Many of the nicest collector's editions I've purchased have come in an extra-cool (read: durable) box/case.  For anyone from Stardock who may be reading, would it be possible to have such a box for the Limited Edition of Elemental?  I'm thinking something along the lines of the Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Collector's Edition (http://ui08.gamespot.com/2311/dsc01161_2.jpg).  But if that's not possible, the least I ask is that the box not be made out of paper (cardboard), as those never stand the test of time (nor look as cool).  Even the standard plastic cases used for most games these days is better than paper.  If Elemental is as awesome as I'm imagining it to be, I would like to proudly display the game on my shelf for years to come.  What do you think?

I tried to find a video clip of the Progressive woman going "Yeeeeeeeessssss" because that's how I feel about this idea. Sadly, I could not.

 

I do have a question though. How does the pewter dragon fit in that thing?

Nice! I'm glad I pre-ordered one! :D

I hope the box is durable... But for me it's more important that it's stylish and good looking. Hopefully both.

 

Oh and I hope we get to see a small preview of the poster as well :)

the CE doesnt look to me to be worth the extra $$$. I hope the instruction booklet is thick and full of pics.

Loved opening up NWN 1 and getting a full break down of everything. Booklet was like 200 pages or something.

Ya i grew up in the 90s too with video games. Genesis had some good instruction booklets. There was none of this pdf BS files.

Can you share the screenshots you are referring to?  Btw, the boxart from the Preorder page was recently updated (the "Games for Windows" logo is no longer visible).

GalCiv2's retail box was made out of paper, and although I never got Demigod, the pics I found online (http://cache.g4tv.com/ImageDb3/144053_S/Demigod-Collectors-Edition.jpg) seem to indicate that its box was too.  Of course these are older titles, so I'm hoping that Stardock has followed in [most of] the rest of the industry's footsteps by abandoning paper packaging.

Side note: I know this is a trivial issue compared to the game[play] itself, but I still thing it's important to voice our opinions regarding all aspects of the game, especially since Stardock has always been open to community feedback.  It seems that there are people here that agree with me, which I'm glad to see.  Thanks for letting me and (more importantly) the devs know.

Would anyone from Stardock be willing to chime in?

From the LE specs linked above:  Extended print manual with additional information on the world of Elemental (i.e. 200+ pages)

So I think you're set there.

I paid extra for the LE for two main reasons:

1) Want to support Stardock and their way of making games/doing business

2) The extra stuff looks pretty cool and is from an age gone by

I'm usually hesitant about paying premium prices for Collector's/Limited Editions.  But in my opinion the Elemental LE seems worth it, considering that it includes the soundtrack (I'm a computer game soundtrack junkie), which itself can be valued between 10 to 15 dollars.  Besides that, you also get the cloth map and the extended manual (among other things), which to me justifies the extra $20.

I hope the music on the soundtrack are of the highest possible quality (FLAC or ATEAST 320kbps MP3!)

 

The Collectors Edition of GalCiv II was in some kind of metal.

Well, tinnish metal anyway. The light stuff. The fake leather "can" be okay as well.

I wasn't aware that the GalCivII CE case was metal.  It's strange then that Stardock went back to paper for Demigod.

Me too and this will be my first Stardock game. I was overwhelmed by the dedication they have to their customer base. They really know what good PC gaming is about.

I bought Limited edition just because Elemental seems to be game of my dreams. And do I want to put special edition box of my game of dreams to my self? Sure I do!

Material doesn't matter that much for me let it be meta, paper or plastic though I would go plastic for its durability and design. I just hope it won't be as massive as I.E. that warcraft 3 collection editor box: those things are hard to put on display ^_^'
