What Did You Play this Weekend?

It was a bit of a boring weekend here, so I was glad to have some time to dedicate to gaming.  I concentrated on two games this weekend.  The first being Elemental: War of Magic beta.

The second being Tropico 3: Absolute Power.

Well, what did you play?

Lets see.... It was a lan party weekend again! Team Fortress 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Forza 3 (only cat and mouse, and only with Popeye and panda bear sprays! LOL!), little dragon age, Homeworld 2 Complex, and I'm working on getting Star Wars Rebellion to work on Win 7... almost got it! -_-

Though my summer classes just started so I wont be playing as much as I want too. X|

Island Dog you and your internal builds.... jerk! X(

Mainly been on Spaceforce: Rogue Universe. Took three tries over the course of a year or more but finally got into it. The game got panned for a lot of problems upon release, but is pretty fun patched once you figure everything out by trial and error(lack of info/tutorials another issue).

Also some Civ IV: Beyond The Sword. Talk about V got me playing again, figuring as IV will be the latest for me to play for the foreseeable future.

Started Metro 2033 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, but just touched on them a little so far.

I had always been anti-gaming. The I had to install WOW on my sons PC. It had issues and found myself having to play it to be able to see what was happening when for the techs. STar Trek On Line came out at the same time. I was curious. That's all. I just wondered what it was like compared to WOW. SO I tried it, ya know. JUst took it for a spin.

It was okay. Then, this 'kid' starts chatting me up on a mission and has me follow him to Spacedock. He gives me...GIVES me a coveted Bat'leth that Feds got during the Beta stage. He says 'The Klinks get all pissed off when they see you using one of these." So I go into a PvP mission. Halfway through I am getting my ass kicked so I switch weapons and pull out the Batleth. Well, all 5 Klinks get riled and come after me. They're calling me names as I take em out. I was laughing my ass off because they were so pissed I had a Bat'leth.

I was hooked.

That sucker was billed as Freelancer 2.0. Confirm/deny?

If you can't (not having played Freelancer, maybe?) what's it like/what can you compare it to?

I got a M61 Vulcan Cannon sound to work/sound right in Flight Sim X [they don't sound like a machine gun].

Now my F105D Thunderchief sounds the part.

'Skinning' is fun...;)

Well I have heard a lot comparing it to Freelancer on the forums(mainly to bitch how SFRU isn't FL), but since I never played it I can't personally say how similar it is.

Also afraid I don't play many of these space combat sim type games, last I played i think was Starlancer on Dreamcast lol, so not much help there. I was drawn by the open sandbox setup, huge levels/systems and some fierce(and at time frustrating) dogfights. Like I said though manual and tutorials are useless, everything is learn as you go with some help from the forums, making it difficult to get going initially, but now worth it(to me at least) :)

All you I assume, lol. Tangling with a mad cat is not a good idea without body armor.

I'm certainly not anti-gaming... just don't like to play PC games.  I like to play simple fun games with my kids on the Wii.  I'll take a good game of Lego Star Wars or NBA 2010 over WOW or Star Trek anyday.  I did play Unreal Tournament online with my brothers back in the day... but my last 2 computers have never seen a game.

Lets see, Machinarium, class adventure game, really reminded me of my Broken Sword days.

League of Legends, from the guys who brought you DotA, could never get into Demigod myself (which is similar to DotA and LoL as well), but this is extremely addictive.

And last but by no means least Eve Online, on my 6th month ingame and still learning new stuff :)

Played Demigod LAN with my wife, tried to play Starcraft 2 with the unplayable patch 13, installed Fall from Heaven 2 for my very first time (while waiting for Elemental beta 2) and a little bit Titan Quest.

one thing about fall from heaven... it has lots and lots of resources... it really is a good idea to play with a race not bothing with magic at all at least once through for a little less to deal with... maybe play as Grigori to begin with, adventurers are strong and let you try out lots of things without requring you to go down religious paths (although immortal adventurers are impressive). The free experience for hero units means you can see what promotions are unlocked by research without randomly stumbling into fights.

I just remember my first play through... I tried to get one of each mana type... and raise that armageddon counter... managed both on a large islands map... but had my strongest troops being mages while horsemen of the apocalypse were flying around killing everyone...  interesting but really odd game. (you gain lots of unhappy faces and unhealth as the AC rises, as long as the horsemen stay alive, as well as nasty events, hell terrain and general horror and death...)

Also, for mana, you benefit from having more than one of each mana type- free upgrades to mages (2 mana gives I, 3 gives II and 4 gives III at archmage, so death 4 would give 'death I' at adept creation, death II at mage upgrade III at archmage, the ability to become a lich and also +4 unholy damage for any death 'affinity' units (like wraiths getting stronger with death mana, druids with nature etc. While 4 mana nodes spread between fire, water, earth and air would give nothing free except allow you to build a wonder increasing summon strength.
...still fun to see what they all do though at some point. Best way is to demand vassals give you their mana on capitulation, that way you can quickly gain lots of mana types at the point you would have won (vassals can't refuse the first demand, future demands can cause wars). Also, I like some of the modmods at the moment... not all of them are as 'clean' with some missing text or broken bits... but new races are fun once you've tried those that take your interest.

They called the Thunderchief 'the Thud'.....the sound it makes when it hits the ground due to a glide ratio little better than an F104.  Its other nick was 'Lead-Sled'.

Glides like a brick and is a bastard to land.

So far I've managed one actual landing [on a runway]....I always seem to run out of approach/speed/height/lift/anything....and at best end up on the grass.

Still....I've managed to skin it a little, tweaking what I can....;)

Re-discovered Civ IV and also picked up Tropico 3 on sale (looks great... haven't gone past the tutorial though... Civ IV's one more turn syndrome took over the weekend).

Let me see....Sins of a solar empire, Runescape (I know very kiddy game but hey once you spend more than half a year in playtime, you just can't stop), Team Fortress 2, and audiosurf, it was fun, not to mention I had a long weekend....
