Another day, another dollar or two ...

Another day, another dollar or two spent for things around the house.  Oh, wait, that was yesterday.  Uh, yeah.  Yesterday for sure.  Amazon got me for a healthy amount yesterday.  A new tower style (I call it a pencil style) fan for my living room/dining room area.  Sadly, they seem to have issues with inventory on that one, but it should eventually come through.  I ordered one that matches the one that I'm now using in my "Florida" room (aka my "play room" or "computer room", "den", etc.)  It moves a good bit of air and has an added benefit of being an ionizer/air freshener compliments of the filter that is included on it.  While I would have labelled that a gimmick before using it, it's actually useful as it does help pull dust out of the air as it pulls air through the filter and then blows it around within the room.  Given the amount of dust that gathers in my home, it's a necessity.

Other stuff that I ordered was less exciting.  Toys and trinkets type stuff that I ordered for work.  M&M dispensers to hold M&M's to feed the beggars at work.  If I were to bring in the little snack bags and such they'd disappear so quickly that I'd be broke after a few days.  With the dispensers the servings are metered out a bit and people seem to live with smaller handouts so the inventory lasts a little longer.  The co-workers also get amusement out of the dispensers as the push the buttons or turn the handles as necessary.

Today's shopping was a bit more practical... Sunscreen products and such.  We had a bunch in the house, but what we had was all old and questionable for effectiveness.  Given my pasty white complexion and how easily I burn, and the fact that I've had one skin cancer issue in the past, I'm doing my best to avoid any further issues.  SPF 100 in one of the bottles of stuff I bought.  Most was around 30 or higher.  (The stuff for use around your face tends to be at the lower end.  It's a bit less necessary for me as I wear a Panama Jack type brimmed hat if I know I'll be outside a while.  It gives me much more protection than a typical baseball cap would.)

Part of the reason for the sunscreen stuff is that I plan to be outside on the weekend.  A concert on Saturday that will have me outside all day, and baseball game on Sunday for a good piece of the day.  For the concert my seats are under cover so I should be ok at that, but for the baseball game I never know in advance how much shade to expect when I'm taking best available seating.

The cleanup around the home continues.  Today I spent about 90 minutes, maybe more, cleaning up around my daughter's computer desk.   It had been a mess for quite a while.  I went through the discs that were stacked up and pulled out a bunch of old PC games (from 1999, 2000, and 2001) and put them in the can.  Also pulled out an old flatbed scanner that I had bought to satisfy a request for my wife long ago.  It never really got used, and over time it was obseleted for us anyway because the printer that I have there is an HP All-in-One printer/scanner/fax/copier (5610).  Even the printer on my own desk (a photojet or somesuch...) has a scanner built in, so we really didn't need a flatbed at this point.

I've still got a ton of paper to shred.  Still thinking that I should just find somewhere that will take a garbage can full and shred it all for me.  I don't want to burn up the motor in my shredder going through old paperwork, but I don't want to just put it outside either.  I'll handle it in an appropriate manner, but I'd definitely like easier and less time consuming.

Today was also another visit to the dentist.  One less hole in my head {smile}.  Apparently I have one more on the same side they worked on a week ago.  Why they didn't do it while I was there last week, already numbed up from the novacaine while they'd done the others on that side, I don't know.  Seems silly to me, but oh well.  A two week reprieve before I have to go back again, but then I get a long break before my next visit as everything should be back to normal again after.  I do appreciate the dentist's work as I know that at least one of the cavities was deep and noticable to me.

Baseball was better to me tonite.  Not quite Chico (think very old SNL) level of beddy, beddy guud to me, but still it was a better result.  I'm sure someone else here would argue differently, but I'll take what I can get as my team tries to get back to .500 or above (and did tonite).

Oh, one other mention here... congrats to the Washington Wizards on winning the NBA draft lottery.  I'm sure they'll find a way to screw that up somehow, but it appears they'll get a good player this year.  They need all the help they can get, so good for them.

Have a great nite and day folks.  Hopefully back again tomorrow.
