[1Z5][SUGGESTION] heroes are too bland

I'd like to see more differences, ESPECIALLY rare traits that make some heroes have more long-term potential than others, like maybe...

- 50% experience bonus (with a really rare 100% exp bonus).  Someone who starts with this might lower base stats and fewer talents and would start weaker than current heroes, but would pass them by if he lived long enough to gain a lot of experience.

- An extra boost to one of his stats every time he levels up, determined by the game, in addition to the choices you make.  This could come in several flavors, like  1: always gain extra defense   2: always get extra magic ability,  3: always get something random.  So some heros would be pre-destined to be magic specialists and others would be melee fighters.

I say "rare" because I think they probably are not available in custom sovereigns.  But if they are, make them super expensive.

As far as I'm concerned, one of the main points to a fantasy game instead of space/sci-fi or historical, is to be able to absurdly strong kick-ass heroes  (like MOM champions but not MOM regular heroes, and not like anything in Age of Wonders).  I seen dev posts about how special it will be if you can get a dragon, but I think it is more fun to cultivate a hero until he has the levels and equipment to stomp dragons flat.

I'd rather not see ^ this happen. This is the problem with just about all fantasy games with heroes. You spend the entire game just building up one strong one and the outcome of the game depends on his/her survival and that just ruins the entire game when you lose your hero this way. I'd rather see STATIC heroes they come with base stats and they remain with base stats and losing one won't ruin the game or make it so lopsided nobody wants to finish a game. Please do not make this game herocentric. It is ok as I said to make some stronger units than regular units but no unit should end up being a god on the map or no game should basically be over because you lose one.

I don't see any harm in including them in the game, and have a check box at game creation to enable/disable champions.  I like the idea, I always enjoyed in MoM how a hero could be unbelievably powerful, but a single unfortunate roll vs a cracks call would bring him to an unfortunate end... requiring you to dedicate extensive resources to resurrecting him.... if you had the spell.  Placing all your eggs in one basket has always been risky.  I don't think the engine should prevent you from doing that, your own logic should.

You cannot just disable ALL the Champions. They are an important part of the game.o_O You mean the "Not too bland Champions"?

Now now, let's read the thread.

basically keep heroes and leveling but dont overpower them.

I don't mind overpowered heroes. That being SAID ... I think a Dragon should always be stronger than a Hero. (but a hero equipped with God weapons and God armor ... might be equal to a Dragon, but definitely not "stomp dragons flat" level)

Imho, an extremely experienced Hero should be roughly the fighting equivalent of a very experienced Sovereign ... however a Sovereign with X1 experience points should always stomp a Hero with X1 experience points. However a Hero with (X1)x1.5 might be on par with a Sovereign with X1 experience points.

Also, Sovereigns have spells ... which means they will usually stomp heroes ANYWAYS :p (at least with a little bit of legwork from their minions if they aren't nearly as buff/leveled as the hero they are fighting)

Now now, let's know the game we are talking about. Elemental only has one type of "Champion" (unlike Heroes and Champions from MoM).

Yea ... gotta agree on that one, lol.

Anyways, Ill reiterate that Dragons should ALWAYS be more powerful than a solitary badass Champion ... and that Sovereign vs Champion of equivalent level ... Sovereign should almost always win.

I dont see why we can't have a dragon slayer possibilty for a hero that allows her to kill dragons realtively well but she just cant cut it in regular battles.

Ahhh yes but should a dragon be more powerful than a sovereign?

I just want to chime in: winning an epic fight with a hero you have groomed since game start is what makes these games great. Occasionally wandering across a god-hero would kill that. However, strong heroes, after training and leveling, should be weapons of mass destruction. Maybe have unique abilities gained over time, tied to their leveling (fighting abilities if they constantly fight, research abilities if in a research heavy city etc)? MoM had a great hero leveling system, what I have seen in elemental is... stale by comparison.

Heroes are just not going to be that powerful. It has been said by Frogboy that they are meant to be interesting and better than most units, but not the main unit in the game. Allowing them to be like MoM would make Sovereigns useless. I think a fighter class Sov is the powerhouse that you might be interested in.

As a future Empire player I think my wraith cavalry will be much stronger than most of your piddely Kingdom heroes. :waaaa:

Imho only Sovereigns (and possibly Dragons, at least those still growing) should gain abilities/strengths/etc just by merit of being alive. Ergo only Sovs and Dragons should increase power over time.

However, a highly levelled hero should be able to do some damage.
