Clearcutting Forests and Razing Cities

While I was playing my last playthrough I ran into a problem (well it was a problem for my OCD very organized city building self). My city bumbed up against a large patch of forests. And when I went to build houses there it wouldn't let me build in the woods.

Okay no big suprise but it forced me to build my houses out at a rather irregular fashion since it was in the middle of my residential zone. Now obviously this is gamebreaking but as I continued to play the fact that my city had become this unorganized mess really just messed with my sense of rightness in the world.

But it does go back to the fact the we need a way to be able to Raze unwanted captured cities and clear cut forest and a few other basic engineering ideas for city building.

As it was the 3 other cities I captured since I couldn't raze them and didn't want to waste troops garrisoning them. I just destroyed every improvement in them. And left them for the computer to come back in an reconquer.

Have you tried placing a Lumberyard, then destroying it before it completes and see if that clears the land... ;)

lol No I hadn't. and not a bad idea.

But of course we shouldn't have to rely on exploits like that hehe

Actually, destroying a lumberyard after it completes also clears the forest. The act of building a lumberyard somehow destroys the forest irrevocably. Heh, would be the ultimate punishment to an opponent by taking over his city and destroying all the lumberyards = no more lumberyards or TREES even if he takes it back.

Amazingness.
