Another somewhat boring day in the life of...
It's been what seems like forever since my last article here at JU. I stop in every now and then, see the headlines/new articles that have been posted, browse over them quickly and then move on through my typical web browsing. I miss this site, and miss the time when I was a much busier blogger here, but I've lacked the inspiration and desire to take time to say much of anything.
Of course my last article has a lot to do with that. Even before that article, I'd been in a rut and not as inclined to write, but the last article really took the wind from my sails (so to say). No, I've not been depressed or all that gloomy. What happened happened, there's nothing that I can do to change it, and I accept that what happened is done. The tow truck driver that was responsible for the accident finally had his day in court (or so I was told by the States Attorney's office, as I didn't attend once I was informed that it would be a plea deal with the driver pleading guilty to a charge of failing to control his speed, 3 points on his license, $500 fine) a few weeks back. Up to that point I had been sporting a beard/whiskers that I had been growing since the funeral. With that outcome confirmed, I finally shaved completely (with some help from the local barber shop). The barber trimmed things up with the electric clippers, and I finished it all off with the trusty old razor.
The whiskers/beard were something I tended to grow out for the winter months and then shave in the new year, around the time of my wife's birthday. She hated them while they were growing, finding them too sharp and prickly. Once grown out, she'd tolerate the facial fuzz, but demand that it not stay too long.
Just before the court case the "monument" that was left for me wife was planted near her hometown. A tree was donated to a park in her hometown with a plaque placed by it. She'd left a letter of demands and plans for what to do after she died and one of those demands was a plaque with a message she'd written to be placed in the public somewhere. She wanted the message to be read and pondered. The plaque that was placed by the tree has that message on it and is in a nice area where people should be able to find it easily.
Beyond those events and happenings, I keep working at my day job. Today's a bit of a slow day, with the clock seeming to drag, but perhaps that's because of the knowledge of the bright sunshine and really mild weather outside. The entire weekend is supposed to be really nice, though personally I don't care that much for overly warm weather, so I may yet be seeking refuge in a movie theatre for part of the weekend.
I'm dangling my feet in the dating pool a little via Match.com and Yahoo! personals, but finding neither to be all that encouraging. Apparently my mug shots are scaring away potential matches. Or, well, it could be my 'about me' message. Personally, I suspect it's because the people on those systems are fairly shallow and they're looking at the pictures, making quick judgements, and failing to take much effort to strike up conversations and learn more about the people they are quickly passing over.
My summer's planned out with events that I'll hopefully come back and write more on. A series of concerts that I'll be going to with my daughter. Several baseball games (I should have been here writing an article on how suprised I've been at the competitiveness of the Washington Nationals this season!) and other events that will help pass the time. And a trip with my kids in the summer that will be one of our last goodbyes to my wife.
Hopefully the next few weeks will find me with a little time to come back and write more. It's a habit I'd like to get back into.
