[CTD][.302] Out of Memory

http://pastebin.com/M1TjJNdm

I don't mind posting these, but it would be great if someone from Stardock were to reply to this message to say that you're seeing this, that would be great.

Sorry, we see them all :)  The team just knocked out a big memory hog that wass happeneing with forests, so hopefully that, combined with other code clean up, will make these darn memory issues a thing of hte past.

Weird thing though:

In his game, it was only reporting using 400 megs of memory. Shouldn't have been a problem.

When you say "out of memory" are you literally getting some sort of Windows dialog that says this?

Hey, guys, thanks for the reply; nice to hear that the data isn't going down a hole. :)

Sorry, FB, I'm probably calling it the wrong thing.  It's a simple CTD, no messages; the game window just closes, and that's that.  I can reload a save game fine, and keep playing, I just have to restart the game.

Another one for you guys, after only 4 turns.

Impulse is not related to Elemental other than as the download manager. :)

But thanks for sending the data. This is extremely helpful.

Doh!  Impulse is listed directly above elemental in Process Explorer, and darn it, I grabbed the wrong properties sheet without realizing it.  Too late now :(

Started a game using the AutoSave of the above game, continued on for quite a while, then got multiple Out of Memory Errors popping up this time.

Interesting note: the Dump file is reporting 0KB... and it did not generate a zipped version of it...but I'll include it anyway.

Debug.err

Prefs.ini

Look at that. 1.7GB.   Definitely something very very bad.

Jesse (codecritter..our lead Engine guy) was showing me a game today, after his object mangement tweaks, and at 100+ turns he was at a consistent 600-ish mbs of memory usage. It actually DROPPED in memory use a few times, so I think we've nipped this out-of-control memory usage in the butt/bud.  :)

But this is usually at the start of the game.

For future reference, would attaching Process Monitor to the Elemental process and submitting a trace be useful?

Sorry, was refering to Davabled's...

>>Debug Message:  - Ending Turn 960 -
>>Debug Message:  Current Memory Usage: 1745453 KB

We definatly have some fixes that will help those 1,000 turn games ;)

Winni: Did you say you were on an XP box?  If so, we're looking into some early-game crashes when playing on XP that may make you happy!

I am having the "Out of memory" symptoms for at least the last three Beta 1 releases. I am running Elemental on a Win7 pro 64 bit with 6 GB of RAM machine.

Specifically, the game appears to always crash after a certain time (30+ minutes?), number of turns, or number of safes. There is a crash to desktop, and two Windows 7 alert windows pop-up with a simple "Out of memory" message. Then, Windows 7 pro tries to be helpful by offering to close the app or to look for solutions online. I don't expect to have fun but with the impending Beta 2 release, I am getting nervous about this persistent problem.
