Equipment should Cost Starting Gold

During Sovereign creation I recognized equipment costs build points, but it seems more logical the equipment cost should be taken from a players starting gold.  I believe this method would encourage more equipment being purchased during the creation of the sovereign.

Definitely like this idea. I could use the points somewhere else.

I made this exact suggestion! I didn't get any responses but I'm glad somebody agrees with me.

Boogie has said that the "item shop" has been implemented already in their internal build. IE. You can buy equipments for gold. :)

They are talking about "starting" equipment. Once the game is in progress it's a whole other issue. But when you first designing your SOV the same points to increase a stat or used to buy an item. Which I think is lame as it's better to put points in stats then go buy a weapon at that item shop once the game has started.

As for the OP I'm also in favor of items drawing from your starting gold during SOV creation.

You realize that as soon as they made starting equiptment cost gold, the number of points for attributes and such would probably be lowered lol.

Personally, I would rather have Character Points being used to buy equipment, because you are really buying a STRONG character for the early game, which otherwise would not be available for many, many turns. I think its just cooler that way, imho.

I don't think anyone actually believes the current 15 points max per stat will survive. It is simply a debuff offset to the Trolls decline. I rarely even see one any more. The roaming Hero packs eat them for breakfast. ;)

The map provides (at this point) a Shield, Sword, Armor and Greaves. Why pay for them? Only reason you don't get them is if you pick more than 3 enemies. :)

I still believe that negative traits should be limited to -10 points.

See, if you used your starting gold to buy Starting Equipment, that would make even LESS sense because there is some magical vendor somewhere that has these items.

By using Sov creation points, you are building a character. Say, "this is Bob, his family has passed down his ancestral armor for generations upon generations. He spends so much time caring for his ancient yet sturdy armor, that he has little time for other academic pursuits." Something to that effect. Otherwise, if you have to spend GOLD for armor, then its a matter of how useful gold is at the beginning, and how much of it you can have. Also, Sov points will invariably suffer overall.

It would boil down to how useful gold is at the start of the game, and invariably, either everyone will spend all their gold, or no-one will spend any. On the other hand, deciding your full character, starting equipment, skills, n stats overall ... that is a bit more useful. Game Play + Fun over ... whatever led you to need the alternative.

Are there currently any Negative Traits that grant more than 10 points?
