Starcraft 2 Preorder Beta Keys

Starcraft 2 Preorder Beta Keys

Gamestop and EBGames are now giving away SC2 beta keys with SC2 pre-orders. If you've been trying to get one without luck so far, and are planning on getting the game anyway, this looks to be your best bet.

Still seems like its live on amazon.  http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1272026524&sr=8-2.

And still appears to be live at gamestop:  http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product_ID=65548.

Suggest you get it while the getting is good.  They just did a ladder reset yesterday and released a new patch.

If they do run out of keys at EB Games/Gamestop, you can cancel your order online with no questions asked.  You can also go to their store and have the key printed on your receipt.  You have to "activate" the key the store gives you, but once yolu figure out whats going on its not a big deal.

Okay, well I did finally get my key, but it took longer than 24 hours for some reason.  Or did it?  My inbox claims it came early yesterday, but the email didn't pop up until this afternoon.

In any event, I am pretty sure Gamestop still has the beta keys.

So if anyone wants to play an easy opponent I should have the game installed shortly.

Well I ordered on Amazon. I don't like Gamespot. So... now we wait... B)

Yeah I thought about changing my order from Gamestop to Amazon, but I noticed Amazon said it may take up to 5 business days, instead of 1, to get the key delivered.  Wasn't sure if it would really take longer or not, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Can't really play much anyway at the moment due to server side down time.

well sure.  Beta's always end at some point :)  I don't think this one is ending anytime soon, though.

Well, but you said this:

This seems to imply that some betas last longer than others.  Almost like these gamestop and amazon betas are "fake" betas or temporary betas, not "real" betas?  What did you mean by this?  What's the story?

OK  - here's what the email from Amazon says if you order from them:

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

The Amazon Video Games team thanks you for your pre-order of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Now it's time to get you your pre-order bonus code to participate in the Starcraft II beta.

Here is your bonus code: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

This code will give you access to the StarCraft II beta. This beta will be available through May 17th.

In order to participate in the beta test, you must have an active Battle.net account. If you don't have a Battle.net account, visit www.battle.net to create one.

How to Use Your Code:
Step 1: Log in to your Battle.net account. Under "Manage My Games" click "Add or Upgrade a Game". Enter your beta key in the "Enter Game Key" field and select "Add Game".
Step 2: Get the Installer - In your list of games, click the Manage Game button under the StarCraft II beta image to download the installer.
Step 3: Install the StarCraft II beta - Once you've downloaded the installer, run it and follow the directions to install the beta client on your machine. Note that your participation in the StarCraft II beta test is governed by a Beta Test Agreement that you are required to accept before you can install the beta client.
Step 4: Run the Game & Log in to Battle.net - After the game installs, the launcher interface should automatically appear on your screen. Log in with your Battle.net account and you'll be able to begin playing. You can launch the client at any time by clicking the desktop shortcut or by going to the Windows Start Menu.

Thank you for your continued support of Amazon.com/games.

Also, each claim code is unique and can't be shared.

The email you get from gamestop if you pre-order starcraft II does not have an end date listed, but individuals have reported that if you get the beta in store, the receipt that prints (that includes the beta code) indicates that the beta runs until May 31st.

So, if that is to be believed, you get access to the beta for longer going through gamestop.  It could be everyone loses beta access on the same date, though.

As far as I'm aware, there is no valid reason why they would end on different days. My guess is its just the general time frames they pulled out of their excretory systems. Kinda like they do with release dates on games with a TBA release date. However, that they are both in May leads me to believe we may see a June release of the game. :)

As for me, I pre-ordered through Amazon last autumn, got my beta key a few days ago (21st i think).

Indeed.  The only reason I can think of would be if gamestop or amazon had to pay for the privilege of offering beta access for pre-orders.  I believe both companies started sending out beta keys on the same day.  Turning the beta keys off on varied days might be a good way for them to test that functionality.  Oh well.  I guess time will tell.  Anyway, I'm still glad I was able to get into the beta and wouldn't object to it lasting through June :)

people that got the friend invites were people that were selected by blizzard for the beta or went to blizz con.  There aren't any extra codes currently being sent out for folks that are preordering now through amazon or gamestop.
