[Suggestion]Research Impression

Hello,

i´m quite new to the beta and i had just a few games.

I just want to express my impression that the research tree is dominated by civilization.

This is my actual research level on turn 302. Civilization is in most cases better to choose then other techs. It looks like, that you are automatically forced to take civ to get the next level of improvements, which are worth to research.

..."War of Magic" - Well, where is the magic?...atm you can`t play a wizard...just take a melee sovereign and let´s start killing. Maybe there will be far more in the future...even better techs.

I would like to see much more spells and more wizard action, because i want to play a wizard later...

Well right now the beta is mainly focused on stability. A lot of the mechanics are gonna get worked on and refined in later beta stages. The tactical combat isn't even in yet and is several months off from us testing it. If you have any specific suggestions beyond simply "add more" I'm sure the devs would be interested to hear them as they actually listen to the community.

On a side note I think you should invest in more research. I see your research is only 15 per turn and your on turn 302 with very low R&D levels and 6 cities.

The point is not the research output per turn rather then the benefit from each tech. Civ tech is by far more interesting then other techs.

9:4:4:1:3 ratio in tech during a test game without optimising each step.

An Idea could be, that more city improvement will be available by other tech trees. e.g. an Pub/Inn is available, when a certain adventure tech is researched. Warfare related city improvement could only researched through Warfare rather then civ tech.

Or Combinations e.g. warfare tech level 3 with civ tech level 4 = new city improvement

It would reduce to dependance on civ tech to diversity of tech trees.

Well, the last point to magic and wizardry...it was late yesterday and i miss that point so far. Maybe later with tactical combat i could cast fireballs and such stuff on mobs. ;-)

It's far from interesting because devs are only creating the plumbing needed for the game. You'll have plenty useful techs in all paths at release. But for now they need to focus on empire building to know if everything can work right, not gameplay-wise but crash-wise. It's not at all a game for now (even if a little funny to play).

And devs already stated that there will be drastic changes in the gameplay when all the plumbing will be done.

End of Tainarius's quote

I said "on a side note". As in a tip for future reference get higher R&D so you can do more testing deeper in the tech trees. Cause you obviously didn't go that far down any of the tech trees. Military has some interesting stuff deeper down like Legions which are full armies of units. But because the enemy is no real threat there is no need for a good military.

But also as I originally commented this phase of beta is on making sure the engine works. What you seem to be asking for is simply more content without any specifics which is something that is going to be added later in beta. Just as all the weapons and customization options are not yet in for units. Heck we don't have archers, siege units, calvary, or naval units in the game yet devs have said their coming and several place hold techs indicate as much.

The devs have also stated they will be looking more deeply into the questing, magic, and dynasty systems during later beta stages and that is bound to help fill out the lacking tech trees.

Also the devs has stated on several occasion that if the current build is "fun" they have failed. They have intentional stripped out a ton of stuff to hide it from us so that we will focus testing what they want us to test rather the simply "play" the game like a lot of people who get into betas for a early release do. Right now it's basic engine testing and save/load system which is still a bit bugged.
