Draconian Race

Alright, I'm a first time poster here and I'm not too sure how this could be implemented, but the idea had been floating in my head for so long and has been refining itself constantly that I wanted to see if anyone else might like it.

Dragons in Elemental are intimidating, intelligent, and are simply give the impression of power. They've been reduced greatly in number due to the recent cataclysm, but what were their numbers before it all happened? What if some powerful seer understood the magnitude of the destruction that was about to occur? They wouldn't just sit back and let it happen, not without doing something or making a contingency.

Draconians, those of dragon blood, but at greatly size and strength, would be that contingency.

Using the power they had, some might use alteration spells on their own eggs to survive the coming apocalypse and able to compensate for a world drained of arcane power. These eggs would then be hidden and would only hatch when that power creeps back into the world and from there, they would rebuild.

As I would see it in game terms, the way to play them wouldn't alter the game's nature, but it would change the dynamic of how to play. They would have their own strengths and weaknesses while also being viewed as a unique power by the other kingdoms and empires. Of course, whether they see that power as a potent ally or threat is another matter. They would have a reduced population increase, both due to new eggs needing to be hatched and perhaps immigrants from human nations being attracted to these people due to the magics they weave. Sources of magic would become an even more important resource due to their nature while material resources like metal and timber would hold a reduced value to them. In game play terms, this would mean that they would seek nodes of magic with a fervor and see any other nation that held them as either a potential trade partner or something to overcome. If a human nation wanted to trade for a raw material trade good within the Draconian's borders, the Draconians would be more willing to trade those materials than if another nation that had a use for them would. Another change would be in how they negotiate with dragons, their full blooded kin that survived the disaster. They might view them as their fore-bearers, worthy of service and perhaps even worship. They might even be used as part of the noble family for the Draconian channeler's linage. In the end game, their objective could be to find a way to restore the power of their bloodline, not that it would be possible for every draconian to have a strong enough connection, but for those that do and are willing to expend the extremely large amounts of time and resources, the chance to become a full dragon and succeeding is a game ender.

Here's a sample of how I can introduce them.

"I greet you, lord of these human lands. I see the fear in your subjects eyes, as well as their wonder as I approach. Are you like them, trembling at my coming? If not, I shall approach closer.

I come as the messenger of my people, those long asleep beneath the snow and ash, who's mothers and fathers perished while ensuring their young would survive without them. And now, we have awakened to greet a world that has missed our presence.

This world has suffered greatly, it's magic has been sealed away, but we seek to reawaken that power, just as it did for us. We will reclaim the skies above and on the passage of our wings, all below shall flourish. Our people grow in the warming sun, ride the gentle winds, embrace the powerful sea, and stand on the resolute earth. We seek to see the rest of the world and it's inhabitants, and you are the first we have met.

We grow in strength, we know to seek powerful allies, and yet we remain vigilant against those that would declare themselves our enemies. Will you stand with us as we grow and share our glories. We offer you the chance to rise with us. Or do you stand in our way? Must we crush you back into the dust you have just recently crawled from out of some baseless fear? Either way, we will find strength, in peace or in war. We will thrive.

What is your answer, channeler?"

Emissary Thurkearseoyl, the Maimed Wing. "Address to Channeler's Court"

Ideas? Thoughts? I realize that this might be more of a mod than an implementable idea.

Definitely a mod (or a minor race/ tribe living in a cave that is part of a Quest or Dungeon).

Personally I would prefer if there was some in-game mention of Half-Dragon Draconians, even if they just get a few units in a small, stagnant minor race that is only part of one quest. (if only for the Art-Assets to make Dragon-World mods more convenient/easy to make ;) )

I like it. I don't think Stardock would put them in as their own faction though. They might use them as wandering monsters or mercenaries or something you could make through magic if you got a Dragon to join you, maybe through a quest. I'd also like them to add them or at least something that looks like them so I don't have to make a custom model for them for the Dragonlance Mod.

Good looking out there, Tasunke ;)

I've reposted this in the mods section since it's more accurate to put suggestions there.

It's only accurate if you're making a Mod my friend. The Mod section is for Mods being made and discussion of them. At this point I'd think it's still a fair hope to maybe see them in a finished Elemental.

Modding material.

I get the feeling that anything that goes beyond: human, elf, dwarf and maybe other few generic enough creatures, everything else is modding material.

Yep. I think that the biggest challenge in modding will be the creation of "proper" 3D models. I can just only hope that talented/experienced 3D modellers will play Elemental, and they will create decent creature models...because I surely wouldn't be able to create any. The modding community is awesome in Civ4 for example [with regard to creating models as well...].
