The most recent screenshots posted on this thread look rather messy, whereas the earlier tile-based screenshots looked very clean. I am not sure if this is progress.
The bigger worry I have is that it appears from the recent screenshots that units will not be grouped into squads or regiments but will fight as a huge, isolated, chaotic mass ("mess"?) of men.
Would not a squad or regiment-oriented tactical combat system be far superior given its intrinsic 1) greater playability (i.e., it is easier to control 20 squads than 2000 individual units in-game); 2) greater tactical flexibility (e.g. you can have more complicated elements like flank or rear attacks or group morale); and 3) simply greater realism.
Please ignore my concern if there is a squad or regiment system in place, and the current screenshots do not adequately represent it.
In general, this game seems to be my dream come true. I have not only been a devotee of every major fantasy-based TBS that has ever come out, but I have also been a lover of the works of Tolkien and his heirs in the fantasy genre since my early teens. I have several early concerns (esp. the seeming lack of genuine variety among the races or factions), but one ought to remain silent when armed only with insufficient information.
Cheers and good luck!
