[BUG/Suggestions/Gameplay] Roads...sigh

Ok, roads have kinda ruined my game. Is there no way to stop constructing a road? It would be nice if it would pop up and tell you how much its going to cost in the long run to connect 2 cities. Also seems that they build the road the LONG WAY AROUND to places instead of point a to point B, can't they build over a mountain? I think maybe there should be an option albeit expensive to build over a mountain, or an event where caves might be found in a mountain that can be used for passage.

The whole road system is going to be re-worked apparently so I doubt they put much time into the current system.
