[Suggestion] Have recruiting trigger on attack instead of a map command + other recruiting ideas

It would be much more logical for recruiting to be an option when you try to attack a NPC unit. You would have a 'Declare War', 'Cancel', and 'Recruit' buttons if you're not at war with the NPCs.

Also, recruiting should cost gold if you ask me. Or a mix of gold / items / materials. It would be cool if there were some special NPCs that you would be able to recruit but only if you bribe them to join you for some cool swag. For example a priestess that you can only recruit if you trade her a book of Arcane Lore (in addition of having the charisma requirements).

Perhaps charisma could lower these requirements or remove them altogether if you have a high enough charisma. This would make charisma more interesting than just an 'on/off' attribute for recruiting.

EDIT:

One more thing about recruiting is I don't know if there is a range check at all on recruiting. Since all you need to do is click on an unit and press the recruit button, can you have your Sovereign at one end of the map and recruit a NPC stack from the other end as long as the stack is visible? This is one of the most important reasons I want recruiting to be triggered on attack, as you should have to be adjacent to the unit you recruit if you ask me.

Also, every single champion should be able to recruit another champion. Champions have their unique Charisma rank, so when you attack a stack it should in my opinion pick the unit with the highest charisma in your army to do the recruiting check. It shouldn't only be your sovereign that can recruit. I see all kinds of opportunities with this kind of a system - you could train a diplomat of some sort. That unit has terrible attack and defense ranks and would have to be protected, but would have an extremely high charisma and as part of an army, would help out in recruiting NPCs/performing quests (among other things, of course).

Another note, do we want recruitment to only happen when the Sovereign is present? Or from anywhere on the map.  I don't view this as being a right || wrong choice, just one that needs to be made.

Is it even possible to recruit at the moment. I didn't think it was, that and dungeons are inaccesiable I beleive. Figure that those will get added in a leter stage of Beta. Though if you can Recruit or Dungeon Delve will someone please let me know how lol.

Well, with a charisma of 20, you don't have any problem for recruiting lonely champion.

I have never seen that button pop up. Granted mabey because the highest my Charisma has even been is 11.

Try researching some Recruitment tech. Won't help with groups if you don't increase lots of charisma but for lonely vagrants helps.

Researched Recruitment a couple times in different games to try it out. didn't seem to do anything. So I assumed (obviously wrongly) that it wasn't implememnted yet. But since it seems that it is then I would have to agree with the OP since new players may not even know about recruiting and would miss it like I did.

Does this mean dungeons are in the game also andI still haven't figured them out?

In the last game I have researched Advanced Recruiting a few times and certainly it does not help with the recruting of those pesky groups. Next SOvereign will start with Charisma 20 because no way I can raise from 15 to 20 with just a few level ups of the current one. ¬.¬

About Dungeons, I have not seen any, as nothing about Taming either.

I think that currently researching Dungeoneering, ect simply increases the number of Inns. As you know there are several types of "Inn Quests" and all other quests thus far are the random even type.

Apparantly to recruit the smaller group you only need above 20 charisma (21 worked) ... however for the other group you need more than 38!?!!! ... yea. After I recruited all other NPC's I took my giant (mostly ex-NPC) stack, and killed the other NPC stack.

After that, I was more than ready to take on the AI.

For people not sure if it was implemented: The button should show up *always* on NPC stacks. It is grayed out if you don't have enough charisma, and mousing over shows you the charisma requirement.

Checked in my last game. True.

I guess there's no boost charisma spell, enchant or potions?

There is a boost Charisma book, maybe also a boost-Charisma potion.

Even so, requiring 38 Charisma as a monolithic requirement to recruit that group is just silly.

Not to mention the fact that group of heroes doesn't have pretty good stats: an initial supercombatant sovereign will be able to kill them while still being unable to kill trolls.

I will have to check but it seems the Groups seem to form with time. I have found groups members all Solo, and recruited a bunch early, vs a game where I was way more Tech focused, vs Exploration, and came across the 38+ groups and or individuals...

I posted elsewhere that I am of the belief that if you attack a Hero, even accidentally through the FOG of war, then cancel and attempt to recruit that Hero, it turns their Battle rating into their Recruiting Charisma value.

Sounds weird, I know, or it is a very very strange coincidence, that the Charisma needed in those cases, is exactly the Battle rating for said Hero...
