[1Z] CTD when clicking main menu buttons

With this patch, I have gone from CTDing immediately after the "press space or return to enter" screen, to CTDing when I click New Game or Option on the main menu.  I hope to experience the joy soon of CTDing whenever I click anything on the map or interface in game.  :)

I'm not sure if the Saturday fix was related to whatever is happening from the previous post, but the game still CTD's when clicking anything on the main menu.

Also, if this helps, the intro "You head North..." movie has been choppier before crashes, sometimes very choppy in sound terms, whereas the 1-2 times the game has actually worked, it has been more smooth.  (These 1-2 times were back last year, so not really meaningful for this point in time.)

As a further question, does anyone have any ideas of what is occuring, and what sort of fiddling around I could do to see if the game improves?

Well, you could try to edit manually the prefs.ini file to change some settings: run in windowed, remove some video effects (like anti-aliasing and various GFX settings). That may help you if you are unable to access the option screens.

Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic and delete your Screens folder.

Then do a verify install to make sure that you have everything.

If it says that you have a good install, try turning off anti-aliasing.

Also, if you have multiple monitors, go into My Documents\My Games\Elemental\prefs.ini and set Fullscreen=0 and see if that works as we seem to be having issues with NVidia cards when running in fullscreen with multiple monitors.

First attempt today was running it as usual with the new patch, it has crashed to desktop as usual.  (I don't have the files for that, unfortunately.)

The second try was in windowed mode.  I have a single monitor, so the issue you describe probably isn't having any effects, but I tried it anyway.  Still got a CTD.

I than tried deleting the screen and than verifying, and also tried to start again in windowed mode, this also resulted in a CTD after the "Press space bar or enter" screen.

I am not actually sure what the video setting all mean, but will try lowering them to see if it effects this bug.  Is there a list somewhere of what these settings are, and if not, is lower generally better, apart from the 1/0 ones?  (My computer knowledge is lacking when it comes to a lot of this sort of stuff, as well as in what may be causing this particular problem.)
