Elemental: Rebuilding a civilization

Highway

A century has passed since the cataclysm.

Tar-Thela is slain. Curgen the Dred’nir is gone. Talax is gone. The combined armies of the west aided by the last Emperor of men in the east, Amarian were successful in stopping the Titans from opening a passageway to their native world. However, the breaking of such a powerful spell broke the world.

In the aftermath of the cataclysm, nearly all life on Elemental perished. A century later, life has begun to return to the world. Scattered groups of people bravely work to rebuild. Patches of viable land are quickly claimed and defended. It is a time of chaos and lawlessness.

Emperor Amarian survived the cataclysm along with his 8 year old daughter, Procipinee. Amarian discovered the ability for Channelers like himself to sacrifice some of their own life force to restore the land thus being able to control the time and place of the rise of a new kingdom. This knowledge was passed on far and wide so that any surviving Channelers could help restore the world.

The five Kingdoms of men in the west – Pariden, Altar, Gilden, Capitar and Tarth, led by Channelers have taken the first steps. With their key insights, they recognize which places are best suited to be restored and from there order things as they see fit.

Across the landscape, people hear of the new kingdoms and flock to their banners, searching for a better life. Still, in the wilds, there are lonely manors, estates, fortresses and even petty kingdoms that have laid claim to the patches of land where life was not extinguished utterly.

Does this mean that there will be independents? Awesome.

Love both the pic and the backstory!

All your names make me go "exotic sounding fantasy name #654" does this make me tainted or something?

Also is the world called elemental? Because that seems a strange name for a planet (or a plane that isnt 'elemental').

Anyway, What kind of resoruce is that guy carrying in his cart? Swords to city C because thats where the barracks are? Or is he moving Beer to city M bcause city R has a slight overproduction for the region and you decided to move a little over to M. Obviously you would have to tell him indavidually to stop and start every few truns. - In other words I went off topic.

Nice picture though. I like the huge dragon on the horizon.

Where is the Dragon in the horizon?

@Frogboy/Draginol just a comment on your fantasy writing: imho you should not go too far with the inflation of fantasy names, since at some point i need a dictionary. the problem is not necessary the amount of names rather their frequency that should be toned down a bit.

When creating a fantasy world one should either explain those names or use them sparingly. I hope their is some kind of lore section where most of them are explained without referring to other fantasy language.

(this is just an advice/ opinion please don't feel insulted)

Is there an Inn, where a fellow could get an Ale, in that quaint little Town the old fella came from. LOL!

Let me see:

Tar-Thela, Curgen, Talax and Amarian are mentionned in "of the Titans" dev journal https://forums.elementalgame.com/376157

The five Kingdoms of men in the west, Pariden, Altar, Gilden, Capitar and Tarth are mentionned in "People of Elemental: The Kingdom" https://forums.elementalgame.com/375995

Procipinee has even a dedicated dev journal "the tragedy of Procipinee" https://forums.elementalgame.com/375704

I don't see any inflation of fantasy names since those named have already been mentionned in various dev journals.

Tesb,

The explanation of the names and the understanding of the lore is exactly the process that we are going through here.  We, the betatesters, are working with Frogboy et al. to develop this lore.  As we go through this process we will understand the history and contribute to the naming of beasts, money, heros and so forth.

Then the game will be released.  We betatesters will be the 'Old School' in the swarms of multiplayer games which erupt across the internet.  There will be lore included but we will be the ones sharing with the new players about the history, we will be the ones making it alive.

So I am agreeing with you, there needs to be lore and meaning to the names.  Traditions are built by living through history and we are doing that now as we give birth to this great game.

Seriosuly though, I find latin acceptable because it does actually represent the ancient and the powerful. I like slavic stuff because it makes sense for 'rough hardy folk' and the like.

But when I hear Merdiellleiad (lol) I think someone just made that up because they made an elf in an MMO.

Yas get meh?

Yeah that's the best looking dragon I think I've seen since "Puff". Are all dragons going to look like that, with the wings shaped like that? Or is that a special dragon?

I'm a bit fuzzy on the actual lore / "campaign" behind the game. Is there going to be a story driven single player mode as well as the random maps? If so I strongly suggest hiring a professional writer to help form / write the story as well as fill in the background lore.

Enjoying the artwork.  I'm with Aractain as far as not enjoying some of the names.  Just a sound and feel thing.  Of the Men, only Tarth feels right.  However, I think that is a minor annoyance if you can replace them in a world editor.

I actually like the names of the Kingdoms.

Dred'nir is the only word that is a bit of stretch for me ... primarily because its a title (not a name) and still sounds funny. ( I suppose there is a valid reason, but still)
