Creatures we would like to see in Elemental

Please don't say to mod them in....

Below are just a few creatures from mythology that I would love see make an appearance in the game...

The Ophiotaurus- From Greek Litature - Part Bull, Part Serpant

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiotaurus

Otherus and Cerbeurus- Giant 2 headed and 3 headed dogs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthrus

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus

Gorgon (Medusa) - Creatures with snakes for hair who can turn you to stone

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorgon

What do you guys think? Any other mythological creatures you want to see make it in? Or any other kind of creature?

I'd prefer to see western fantasy-type creatures over mythological ones. Well, original ones would be best, but if we're throwing in Greek mythology, I'd like to see a Hydra in there, especially if it actually regenerated heads.

Well much of western fantasy is based on Greek Mythology. I chose 2 in my list that were well known, and one that was not so as to give people some ideas. I've never actually seen a Ophiotaurus like creature in a game, but it would fit right in and would seem pretty original. Gorgons have made a few appearances (They made it into Castlevania kinda) but are not very common... Cerburus is all over the place, and a recognizable creature that might make people feel more at home.

If we're just talking fantasy then Chimeras, Dryads, Treants, Nymphs, Lamias, Manticores, Griffons, and Hippogriffs.

Of course, Mechanically speaking Griffons and Hippogriffs are nearly identical so it might be a waste to include both. On the same token, Nymphs and Dryads are kind of pointless as well unless you have something particular planned for them.

Perhaps Dryads, Nymphs, Fawns, Satyrs, and Treants work together to protect Ancient Forests ... or something. At least the good kind of ancient forest. The Darker Kind is infested with Giant Spiders, Giant Snakes, and Doom Bats (flame breathing DoomBats?). Deep into Dark Ancient forest will be Giant Spiders far more powerful than your average giant spider, and giant lairs with Spider-Web traps. You could waste an entire legion trying to clean a whole forest completely rid of Spiders. Yet most don't venture outwards, because they would lack their protecting Webs, and are partially blinded by sunlight. However, I suppose one small patch of Dark Forest could spread SpiderBlight to a huge area of its all connected by forest. Leave a partially infected forest for too long, and its eventually over-run with spiders ... and you get raids from the spiders eager to gain new land (yet still most prefer the forests ... the numbers willing to venture outwards will grow exponentially).

SandLions would be nice too, I suppose. Heh, reminds me of Golden Sun. But anyways, a possible trap during a desert battle (say fighting a Manticore or Scorpoin) could be a hidden Sandlion pit.

Then of course Drakes, Bulletes, Wyrms, Wyverns, Salamanders, Hydras, Half-Dragons, and Yuan-Ti. (My Favorites)

And we know that Frogboy plays Dominions.

So, like the guy behind the Roman Consul at the moment of Triumph, repeating "Don't forget that you're mortal!", I shall be telling Frogboy:

"Don't forget you liked Dominions! Don't forget you liked Dominions!"

(or I could just end all my posts with it, just like Cato with "Carthago must be destroyed!" I love those ancient references B)   )

Don't really care as long as they are interesting.

Fast Monsters, Flying Monsters, Swimming Monsters, Poisonous Monsters, Petrifying Monsters. Ambush Monsters, Monsters with Weaknesses and Resistances, Regenerating Monsters, Monsters that have Breath Weapons, Passive Monsters, Aggressive Monsters

Each Monster should be more than just a skin and hp/dmg difference

There should be burrowing monsters, that can pop-up behind your front lines. There should be hidden monsters that ambush your units as you pass their tile (and then they become revealed). There should be monsters that can become hidden if they move into their favorite terrain and none of your units are near. (aka hidden bug monster can flee to a piece of forest far away from you units after ambushing, allowing it to become hidden again, and desert monster can flee to a far away patch of desert)

There should be spells that can reveal hidden monsters, and spells that can block the burrowing of burrow monsters. (aka Wind of Revelation vs hidden monsters, and Under-Earth Stone to block burrowers.

There should be ONE powerful burrowing monster that can ignore Under-Earth stone, and there should be ONE near-invisible monster that can ignore wind of revelation. These monsters should have counter-spells at a much higher level (like a level 6 wind or earth spell).

Most ice monsters are weak to fire spells (and immune to water or ice spells), however certain powerful Ice monsters can ignore fire spells that are level 3 or weaker, neutral to fire spells level 4 and 5, and weak to fire spells stronger than that.

Most fire monsters are weak to ice spells (and immune to fire), however certain powerful fire monsters can ignore ice spells that are level 3 or weaker, neutral to ice spells level 4 and 5, and weak to fire spells stronger than that.

I think relation of Wind monsters and Earth monsters should be similar. (however lightning spells are always worthless vs earth monsters, and always good vs water/ice monsters?)

Most flying monsters should be weak to wind attacks, however stronger flying monsters should be immune to weak wind attacks. (A flying Dragon would be immune to Wind spells level 1-6, neutral to wind spells 7-8, and weak to wind spells level 9 or higher)

Most burrowing monsters should be weak to earth attacks, however stronger burrowing monsters should be immune to weak earth attacks. (A burrowing Dragon would be immune to earth spells lv 1-6, neutral to lv 7-8, and weak to earth spells lv 9 or higher)

This relationship between flying monsters and wind attacks should only be for wind attacks whose area of attack includes space above the surface of the ground, and relationship between burrowing monsters and earth attacks should only include earth spells that effect anything below the surface of the ground.

For instance, an earth spell "rock fall" wouldn't effect a monster underneath the ground, however Earthquake would cause double damage against a monster underneath the ground.

That second one looks like the Swamp Lord that will be in the game, a creature that I think looks great:

Swam Lord

I'd like to see some undead creatures in Elemental. Not just your basic zombie and/or skeleton created by necromancy, but also some rare and possibly ancient beings like a Lich, or more ghost like Wraiths, Wights and Specteres.

Creature Idea:

As a neutral faction I would like to see beast men. They could be the red headed step children of the fallen. Not real ambitious, lacking in grand intellect and a low population but they make good mercenaries and soldiers. Maybe there little town could be conquered and you could have a couple of units produced out of that town. That is of course as long as the beast man population could support them. Would like them to look something like my avatar. In fact I'm kinda hoping that will be one of the roles my avatar plays (listed as Yeti).

Oh I got one. How about a limited race of monsters that capture your heroes/champions, magically seduce them, and use them to produce a new race of "Monster Heroes".

Example:

A Evil Spirit possesses a Townswoman and devours her soul. The monster woman then ambushes a Noble Hero or one of the channelers Heirs and casts a seduction spell on him. She gets pregnant and because she's a demon the pregnancy is magically enhanced and soon she starts spitting out a small army of Demons that grow into Demon Champions.

Of course if you track her down and kill her before the offspring emerge you can avoid that whole Demon Champion thing.

Note: You could also reverse it and have the Evil Spirit take over a man and seduce a channelers daughter turning her into a Monster Factory unless you sacrifice her or find some way to save her. Also, a Evil Faction might try to do this on purpose to make their own army of Demon Champions to lead their armies. That actually sounds pretty cool.

I want spiders. In this-

https://www.elementalgame.com/images/artwork/Ele_CreatureConcept_Sheet2.jpg

There are seemingly three types, which I hope will be the case and there isn't just one generic 'giant spider' type. I'd like a forest spider that can ambush on the cloth map, a black widow type to have potent venom and maybe a mountain cave spider that...er... scrutinises your tax returns at the end of the year.  Plus, I want spindly-legged arachnids not those stubby-legged bulbous things that are about as threatening as a teapot, unless they have a magic spell that turns you into a teapot, in which case it's fine.

Shifter class would be cool. You can transform into any creature you have killed?

There was a really cool Dragon Age mod that allowed for actually COOL shapeshifters.

AKA, you could use a demon form after killing X demons, you could use a Dragon form after killing X dragons, ect.

In science fiction I always enjoyed alien races with interesting sociological and ecological characteristics. I enjoyed C J Cherryh's for this reason. In fantasy I don't think this is nearly as important, which is why I find it so difficult most of the time to really care about fantasy races. There is a glaring exception: Ian Irvine's "The View from the Mirror" series, which is AWESOME. By far my favorite fantasy series... I really ought to finish it some day...

In "The View from the Mirror", each fantasy species had really distinct biological and social history which explains their nature. So, I guess if I were to make a request, I'd like races made with a similar philosophy to the Aachim, the Charon, and the Faellem.

Dragon age? Do you remember the Mod? I had such high hopes for Dragon age (still do) that it will allow for some really fun and interesting mod possibilities.

I know NeverWinter Nights has a Shifter class and well that is kind-off where I became fascinated with the concept. Age of Wonders also has morphing abilities and changling race in some mods which I have enjoyed greatly.

I hope that Elemental will allow moding for the fun 3d hack and slash factor that NWN has and the pen and paper turn base strategy that Age of wonders has and the deep rich RPG element that Dragon Age has.

To tell the truth I got very exited when I found out about Dragon age but in the back of my mind I feared it would be to complex on the tool-set side of things for and everyday person like myself and not flexible enough to adapt itself to different rule-sets. Now that I found out about Elemental I am once more very exited with a renewed sense of hope that Elemental will bring together the world of the aurora toolset and the Age of wonders editor all in one big easy to use platform. (I love the low resources it clams it will take to run the game I will be able to play huge maps and epic quests with friends online with put having to worry if they have the hardware to meet the demand for playing the game.)
