[.295] Sudden conquest victory

What are the conditions for a conquest victory?  I just had another unexpected one.  I had a game where I had just built my fourth city and was moving right along the research tree.  I started the next turn and came up with a conquest victory.  Checking the debug.err file, I noticed that on turn 134 (the last turn) there were only four cities, my four.  the turn previous to that there were seven cities in the world.  I suppose it could be a coincidence that the other three cities were all destroyed in the same turn, but it seems odd.  Here is the full debug.err:

That's been reported before, although I can't find the other thread now.  Anyway, it seems that the AI opponents are getting killed by ogres.  I saw one get killed by an ogre (I was zoomed way out when I hit next turn) just before I had a similar conquest victory.

I suppose that is possible, but it seems odd for the number of cities in the world to drop by 3 in one turn.  Also, I noticed that the number of units in the world stayed the same at 64 between those turns.  I don't know if those AI opponents factor into that number but it seems like a strange occurrence to me.

Okay, this just happened to me again.  This time the number of cities in the world went from 8 to my 5 (another change of 3 cities) and the number of units in the world went unchanged at 128.  One thing in common between the last game and this game is this debug message on the second to last turn:

Debug Message:  WARNING: Unit Troll is owned by a player but has no sovereign, , so it gets no experience.

Could be another coincidence.

If you were only playing against one AI, and they happened to get their Sov killed by a troll or spider, then you'd get a conquest victory.  When a player is killed, their cities are destroyed, which is why you'd see the drop in total number of cities in the world.
