[0.295 Bug][Graphics] Black world map/texture

No cloth map, black background

Hi

I just bought a new laptop - Asus G73 w/ Mob Radeon 5870 ;-)

Elemental was barely running on my old Athlon2400 rig, now it rocks.. except that the world map is all black !!! wtf ? I mean there is no cloth map at all, it's black emptiness, on which the features and units appears normally...

I tweaked all possible graphx settings (disabled AA, AF etc) to no avail. As my machine is new, I've installed up to date everything (DX 9 and 10, drivers, ...).

I'd like to post a screenie but can t find how, PrtScr doesn't seem to work...

Help!

Printscreen should be outputting images to your My Games/Elemental/Screenshots folder, though in this case a Debug.err may be more useful.

Glad the game is now (someshat) working fo you ;)

when GFX: disable bump mapping, was turned on it was the thing that was screwing around with the graphics once turned off everything appears as it should be

seems to be an issue with the lighting.. not just the above

pdifolco: Can you try what Killz suggests and turn off 'Advanced Lighting' and let us know if that fixes it. Thanks!

I had the same problem, I fixed it by turning off the anti-aliasing.

I've turned off everything as suggested (AA and bumpmapping & adv lighting effects), still black map ...  Geez :!!

hmm... i'm sure i still got bump mapping on you might have the play around with the video settings a lot to get it right try not to worry to much because the game crashs a lot and with a slow internet speed it takes like 3 minutes to start. Capped atm :(

I know it SHOULD play at that high of a resolution, but can you bring dow your res and see if that pops the map through?

Thanks!

Problem solved !! In fact I should have fumbled something before with my ATI control panel, some settings were overriding the game settings, I think it was forced V Sync that was the culprit ...

Now my game is perfectly nice in 1600*900 at max settings, hurrayh !

man your going to wish that you never got it fixed because now your eyes will bleed and you will be bored from all the crashing!

pdifolco: Great find!  Thanks or working through that one...we'll look on our end now and see how we can fix the problem without the player messing with the ATI control panel.

Boogie

Problem is that the ATI controls are designed to override game settings, if you tell them so.. I'm not even sure of where the issue came from, because now I can"t reproduce the "black map", I've so much tweaked everything I don't remember all...

And well, ATI should release Catalyst 10.3 soon in March, these would be usable by laptops as well as desktops, so maybe you should concentrate on these rather than the myriad current specific versions of manufacturers (Asus in my case...).

Had the same problem, along with some additional graphics anomalies like the the sovereign and units not displaying in portrait windows etc. that disabling advanced lighting fixed.

As far as the cloth map not appearing is concerned I spent some time trying to narrow down which settings being disabled fixed it. It's weired, Advanced lighting needs to be turned off in game then both Smoothvision HD: anisotropic filtering & Smoothvision HD: anti-aliasing need to be switched to use application settings in the ATI control panel. However, once the games loaded with the graphics are all displaying normally, reactivating those overrides in the ATI control panel didn't brake the graphics again (on subsequent loads of the game). So now advanced lighting just needs to stay off. But switching advanced lighting off didn't fix the issue until the ATI control panel settings had been tweaked. :-/

Addendum: After a restart the problem is back. Tweaking 3D settings in the ATI control panel fixes it again most the time... Though it doesn't seem to matter which ones you tweak, or if you set them back to what they originally were again. It's intermittent as well, sometimes it works sometime it doesn't. It's bizarre. I've got the most stable results with Catalyst AI disabled. Enabling then disabling it has consistently worked so far (everything else other then the advanced lighting setting in game is on). I should also add the cloth map is there, it just has a black covering over it. You can see it briefly when alt tabbing, sometimes in full detail sometimes with the black covering only appearing in half of each tile (causing a series of black lines).
