[Balance] About costs of buildings and returns

how come a bank does get you only 1 gold/turn when a tax office get you 5 per turn ?

Costs : Tax office (200 gold for 5/turn) and market (100 gold for 1/turn) !

Is there other uses to those buildings (like the markets allow you to get trade bonuses from trade treaties) ? Unless that some buildings aren't really usefull and cost too much.

Feel free to post here other huge balance problems.

The game currently has no balance at all. Nothing has be done yet to balance it. So not that much point in trying to list balance problems atm. ;)

I know, but why not starting to point thing that detract the whole experience for now ? The cost of buildings versus what we earn is prohibitive. It's hard to test anything is prices are too high. They just have to change a number in a database. easy to say "cost 20 instead of 200" and voila.

And my remark is also about "other" thing a building should do. Maybe tax collectors give +5gold/turn AND let you get taxes. For now you only get gold from your town level. Economy isn't a big deal for now, but to build a new twown we need to be in the green.

I say economy is a big deal right now because there are quite a few buildings that have a more cost-effective counterpart. There is no use building the less efficient building.

Also it is very, very easy to dip into the red atm. Then you can no longer do anything like building an army. How are we to test training an army if it is very, very hard to afford one? Take also into account that the AI randomly decided to go to war so your sovereign has to be ready to teleport back fo friendly teretory at all times. For cases like these I would very much like to have an army but for far the biggest army I had were 5 soldiers or something similar.

I do not think that the buildings should be of similar efficiency. More efficient buildings should be later in the technology tree. But with bank, I agree, it is late in the research tree, and way too expencive for 1 gold/turn. May be it can have other benifits, like 10% per turn of overal city income in addition to 1g/turn? Tax office also should be more related to the population. It could be something like income = 3% of population (a town with population 100 would give you 3g)

I'm having negative economy problems with testing as well.

If they don't want to balance it, they should make sure we have enough money to just play around with right now in my opinion. I just want to test out every feature and see how it works at this point and the economy hampers that.

I agree.  For testing, things should be cheaper so we can actually afford to build and test everything.  I am continually going way negative and then all my troops abandon and it just bogs down.  Without any troops there is no choice but to 'go gandalf', I've never had a chance to see what effects a sovereign has sitting in the capitol.

One more thing : number of available shards. How can I test spells when I can't get any shards ? Game load only every 4 or 5th game, so I quit trying to finish a game. If I can't get a shard in the first turns, I won't be able to cast anything.

There is a certain .XML file that gets created when you create a Sov. In said .XML file you may, if you wish, increase the starting amount of Essence such that at least you never have to worry about the rather limited (15) starting amount. Especially seeing as Essence does not regen, even though you can add points to that Item in the Level Up Screen. :(

Gold is not an issue if you just build your town(s) slowly. The game as is let's us Tech way to fast thus burning off Gold like crazy. Just slow down, and hunt the Map.

Currently, I would say .291 is fabulous. I have every item I currently need to Test, save one.

Towns, Food, Magic, Tech, Wife, Children,

and a HUGE Memory Leak. :(

Can we get someone to look into that for us....Please (not optimize, just plug the leak)

Good news too though. My Twitch is gone but it seems to have been replaced with a slight frown. ;)

This one is great:

library: 10 labor, 100 gold, 4 slot => 1 research

town council: 10 labor, 100 gold, 1 slot => 5 research

Same here, making some testing difficult.

Boogie -- how's about adding a cheat to add some gold for testing?

I hooked up a cheat for more money the other day in the internal build.  It'll be CTRL+M (just like in our GC2 games) once we get another update out to you guys.  Please don't use the cheat though when you are asked to test balancing, but that should be awhile from now anyway.
