Elemental PC Requirements

I just had a quick question.  What are the planned PC specs required for Elemental?  I am considering preordering, but I would like to know if my computer is good enough to run it decently and on at least medium graphics settings, otherwise I'll probably wait until I get a new computer sometime in the distant future.

And what's all the talk about 32 bit and 64 bit?  How different will the versions for each be?  Since I have a 32 bit, would I be missing out on a lot of the game?

Thanks.

On the low end, I'm requiring that it be able to run on a netbook (1024x600).

My Thinkpad X40 (5 year old laptop) will be a test box.

Regarding 64-bit:

You're really not missing out. It's just that we expect to have larger sized maps and more eye candy.

Ah, thanks for the quick relpy.

and what they mean by larger maps is the ones that are like more than 5x the size of a CivIV huge map taking months to complete.

Actually, the largest map in Elemental is already 5x the size of the largest Civ IV map just in 32-bit.  With 64-bit, map sizes could get truly (and wonderfully!) ridiculous....

Is it DirectX 9.0c compatible or just DirectX 9.0b compatible?

Can anyone else name ANY other company where a potential customer can go ask a question and get a quick and direct answer from the CEO?!?!

I don't think so....THIS is why STARDOCK ROCKS!!!

Yes I can, Paradox Interactive if you catch the devs on the forums at the right time, but that's all I can think of.  I love both Stardock and Paradox for their awsome support and awsome strategy games.  I have three games from Paradox (EUR, EUIII, HOI3) and two from Stardock (GalCivII, Sins Trinity), and probably three soon (Elemental).  And yes, Stardock ROCKS!

I actually think I caught Frogboy at the right time because I made this thread just after he had made the unit design thread and I posted there too.

Yes, if catch any of the developers who frequently browse the boards than you can almost always get a direct response from one of them.

Getting a Dev response is one thing, sure, but the CEO? That doesn't happen very much, if ever. For a lot of companies "Devs" are a dime a dozen. Imagine going on the WoW forums and having the CEO of Blizzard answering you. Not just a Dev, but the Owner of the company that all the Devs answer to. I don't see that happening in a million years. A lot of CEO's don't honestly take any interest in what their own companies make. They care about profit margins and moving units and making deals that make them more money. Frogboy is among a rare breed these days.

Martin Cirulis, CEO of Kerberos (makers of Sword of the Stars) routinely responds on the forums, but usually just to tell people that their ideas suck and that they should screw off and go make their own game. ;P

And I'm only slightly exaggerating...

I just hope is 9.0c. 9.0b is taking too far the "works in an old computer"...

The CEO of Blizzard is a useless tool.  He wouldn't know a thing about the questions people have.

Thanks for that post KellenDunk.  I knew there was a problem somewhere in our gaming community.  Talk about companies shooting their foot and mouth off.  Sad since they own the rights to many great games of the past.  I used to love Blizzard games. If these articles are accurate.  This is bad for gaming in general(IMO).  Gonna check out was has gone on with that Bobby guy since that article was written.

The thing with Brad is that you know he likes to play games. I played with him in Demigod before and he was decent, although not pro.

So even though it's still business, at least he will try to provide a decent game for his customers.

I won't preorder this game since I do not preorder games.

I am waiting for the release and reviews to order.

If the game turns out the way I'm expecting it to, which is just a fun game that I can play casually, then I will buy it.
