AAR EXPOSURE

Ladies and Gents,

i recently discovered that there existed a link between Stardock and Paradox interactive. (Does Paradox own Stardock?). Since I am diehard fan of the Hearts of Iron series created by paradox I occasionally visit the forums for info and questions about the game. I found out that there exists a forum on the Paradox forums site for GalcivII taht seems to be relatively untouched. I am reposting my first AAR "From the Ashes" onto that particular forum in an effort to gain more feedback from a different pool of readers. fro those of you seeking more exposure I suggest you do the same. here is the link

Cheers

Well... considering that Stardock is a private company im gonna have to say no on the Paradox owning Stardock bit.

right... well since you don't offer anything constructive, I suggest you check this out. It's a list of all the games owned by paradox. Take a look because galciv II is there.

All I was asking was what the link between the two companies was.

I have no idea where to post it and I don't have enough whatever it is to start a new thread so I post my question here. It's off-topic for sure so don't hesitate to ignore or just delete it.

Having spent a lot of time on the CivFanatics forum I got used to game reports format which I expected to see in the AAR section here. A usual CIV game report starts from a save before the first turn and a screen shot of the start position with all units intact; then every 20, 50 or 10 turns are described with screen shots and intermediate saves. A player explains his/her strategic decision, short and long term goals and how he is going to achieve them.

Usually there are no funny stories and role playing (albeit there could be both), but such threads are extremely useful to learn the game. Posting the saves allows the thread starter to omit some details as any reader could download the save and find them there. Also it's very nice to be able to use some other tactics and see how it changes the game.

I was hoping to find something like this in the AAR section. Unfortunately, the only things I see are funny reports pretending to be some kind of fanfiction. They might be written brilliantly, but there is nothing to learn from them.

My question is: is there any sort of game reports as the CIV forum provides?

Gorlums: As a long-time reader but only recent member of these forums, I don't know how to post the links, but there are quite a few 'game report' style AARs out there.

A lot of them are geared to either playing Suicidal/Masochistic difficulty or Metaverse users, neither of which interest me, but they might be good for you. My personal favorites are those done by HydroAC, which explored a number of different races in DA. A couple of them are written in a fanfiction format, but generally they're all factual reports.

Most of the more recent AARs are fanfictions, but if you go back on the forums, there's a lot of good game examples. I've definitely from them myself.

Thank you very much, Qrtxian. There are no saves, but those reports are much more useful.

Not to continue this threadjacking, but I did actually find one with saves:

Detailed Suicidal AAR for DA

If the link doesn't work (I'm still not sure how to do them), it's a few pages back on the AARs forum.

Paradox is the official publisher of GalCiv2 in Europe.

Both companies are known for sharing a lot of views on the gaming industry and I believe Paradox was one of the first publishers to come to Impulse and in return Stardock was one of the first publishers available on Gamersgate. It is very common on the Paradox forums to see people mention Stardock as a "sister" company in terms of how and for who they make games.

Paradox doesn't own Stardock though.

edit: I believe Paradox also uses GOO on a number of their titles. Don't quote me on that though.

Thank you fine sir for clarifying that for me. Are you a fan of any paradox titles?

Yup. I have been since 1999 when I bought Europe Universalis 1. I have played all Paradox's developed titles and most of them are on my own favorite games list.

Yea for me it was Hearts of Iron, and ever since I started playing the second one three years ago. I can't wait to try HOI3.
