Bears taking over my backyard!

A family  that lives on the outskirts of Petoskey, Michigan decided to build a sturdy, colorful  playground for their 3- and 4-year-old sons.  They lined the bottom with smooth-stone gravel  all around to avoid knee scrapes and other  injuries. They finished building it one Friday  evening and were very pleased with the end  product.

The following morning, the mom was about to wake the  boys up and have them go out to play in their  new play center. This is what she saw from the  upstairs window.

Heh, I was going to comment about how you don't have much luck with animals until I read this part. That's pretty funny though!

Bears just want to have fun?

I hope your boys realize that having a playground that bears played on makes it absolutely the coolest playground for a long long way around.

Black bears (American Black Bear) are more dangerous than most people understand. They are cute, yes, but black bears have killed more people in North America than brown bears (such as the infamous Grizzly Bear).

Black bears present a real challenge to certain communities. They have attacked children for the sake of predation, which is alarming. They are not cuddly, loving creatures.

Yeah, be careful around these things. Always keep your distance and try to know where they are. Just in case there is a problem, make sure to always walk with someone who: A. You don't like, and B. You can outrun.

Also, bears have the right to have fun in the playground!!!

Too bad there's not a video.

Bears are cool, but if you have to live with them - you have to live with them. :dur:

I've seen a black bear and a bobcat in person fortunately they are usually seen around here running away from people not at them. There are a couple locals bears too you just call in and let the authority know where they are seen so they can keep tabs. They're a lot more fun looking at photos and on TV. I've heard a cougar before, and when you hear one of them, you just get right back in your car.

Still, that is just so cool to see!

Heh...my first thought here is, "Where is mom bear?!"  I've encountered black bears while hiking, and they usually avoid or ignore people, but I wouldn't go near cubs.

Cool pictures though.

Seeing things like that is always both fasinating and scary. but, well Humans are the ones intruding into the animals teritories.. so its bound to happend.

Apparently, the luge track up in Vancouver is also getting some ursine attention. I caught a blip on CSMonitor.com that mentions at least two racers having spotted bears investigating the course. A bear mauling of a top performer would surely be an un-fun way for someone to win a medal...
