about marriages [Edit: and dynasties]

Hi!

Will 'arranged marriages' will be the only option? Stuff like 'running away with kitchen maid/stable boy', 'bewitching and kidnapping' or 'picking partners themselves' would IMHO add depth and realism to the dynasty business.

Edit: having dynasties with female line of inheritance would also be cool.

:-)

I think it's already in.... but I'm not entirely sure... if not, it will be modded (likely by me) in fairly short order.

Awesome! :cookie:

I just learned about Elemental a few days ago, looks *really* interesting, esp. this open development process. Have never played TBS before, though, mostly RTS. I guess I'll give it a try with beta 2.

The betas are not supposed to be fun yet. They are real betas, not demos called betas. If you want to play some of the classic all time best TBS games go pick up Master of Magic(really old, will need dosbox to run it), Civilzation, Age of Wonders. Try those out, they are some of the best of the genre.

You might want to try some demos and/or discount copies of TBS titles you see mentioned around here first. Some folks really like both types of game, some folks like both but sorta prefer one over the other, and at least a few of us seem to strongly prefer one form over the other. I've tried several RTS titles and even own a discount maxi-pack of the game with the zergling rush problem, but I still strongly prefer turn-based stuff. You should find out if you feel similarly about real-time stuff before you spend money on a TBS game.

I really want there to be extra-marital affairs and love children out of wedlock.

"Honey, why is our son a troll?!?"

Oh man... that'd be sooooo awesome.

The question I always got when someone comes with a suggestion like that is: "And how are they going to balance that?"

The design needs to be great, and putting in random suggestions will ruin the game.

Like you, I'm also an RTS guy. I like TBS with tactical combat though and I suspect you do too. Civlization is not an option for me since it's so abstract and lack micromanagement (Civ is macromanagement) but Age of Wonders Shadow Magic will work. The original Age of Wonders have the best atmosphere and mood since it's high fantasy but it got a feature which makes it boring today (unlimited retaliation.)

You need to be able to summon monsters and demons and then have kids with them. My kids by a succubus would be fun to make, but the kids by a gaint 20 foot tall demon from the bottom of hell would make sweet shock troopers.

Ya, female line of inheritance is an interesting twist.  I'm assuming that would be stuffed into some sort of race/faction editor or whatnot.

I'm a noob to this, so feel free to start throwing rotten fruit. This isn't the real FiAtin, by the way.  I was never here.

For a noob, you're surprisingly insightful..... GW Swicord and I have been agitating for this for months..... I for one would actually also enjoy seeing strange lines of inheritance such as third cousins only or children fathered outside of marriage being more desirable to rule (the sov usually sleeps with and has kids with a single (wo)man, but they aren't heirs, who have to be produced with somebody else who's there for only that purpose).

Or more exotic ways of choosing. Send all your kids out into the wide world and whoever manages to overthrow the biggest enemy nation gets to be heir. Or set them all up in numbered order, the one who is at slow 1 gets to be heir and the only way to rise in rank is to kill those above you via assasinations or duels. Or perhaps just toss them all into an arena FFA deathmatch and the winner takes all.

My methods may be brutal and end up with a lot of dead kids(need the harem poping out kids just to support it) but it will produce the most evil, cunning, mean, vicious, killers ever. The kind of kids i can be proud to hand my country over to.

Broad flexibility in custom faction options would be fine by me, but for the canon factions all I'm hoping to see is a 'modest' amount of variety. There are twelve canon factions, so it seems like there should be room to cover male-only lines, female-only lines, and gender-neutral lines. 'Simplicity' will probably make universal primogeniture necessary for the canon factions.
