Spoils of War

Was just reading a book and thinking to myself about soldiers in a squad. They all have the same armour and weapons but eventually some of these will break to wear, use and simple bad luck. While your different squads be they swordsman, spearmen, or archers when they fight any enemy squad and win will there be spoils after the battle. Not just gold but weapons weather they be a higher quality or the same maybe even lower. Will they santch them up to use as there own weapons if they break.

This adds a whole dynamic to the game, tactics, and battles but wouldn't it be neat if your squad was using plain iron weapons overcame a squad with steel weapons and took the good ones to use as there own. Eventually through tactics or magic or what have you to become a squad with mixed armour and weapons giving advantages and disadvantages to warfare.

Just an idea but it would add a whole new lvl of gameplay so instead of developing good weaps you could concentrate or build shabbier versions and recruiting than go out and with sheer numbers win the day and beter equipment. Gets complicated you would need lots of peasents to recruit from and infrastucture to recruit from but it would be a whole new way of playing. I think the same can be said of magic. Research lots of really powerful spells and use tham to fight your battles or research lots of advanced weaponry and use that to fight you battles.

Just an idea but one I like. If not for this game it would be neat to see implemented in the future.

Some reason but this topic isn't showing up in the forums. Could it be a server issue or a user issue.

It was probably a server-side problem. The Stardock forums get balky every now and then. If you see a rash of double postings, you can be pretty sure there's some sort of digital indigestion going on, but it usually gets back to normal in a short time. Things seem fairly responsive again as of about 14:30 East Cost time.

Well I only skimmed through your post. But it sounds like your suggesting that your soldiers can loot the enemy soldiers and take any superior weapons/undamaged armour for themselves. If that is the case then sure why not I agree, I win?

I get lots of Egads lately so I have get used to copy the content of my posts before "Post Reply". :/

On topic... too complex? Not a bad idea but... I'd see easier some kind of random after battle event in which a sqaud can get upgraded by the enemies' equipment (if appropiate).

Indeed, you can't have your trained swordsmen grabbing enemy spears because they have higher attack.

I didn't mean for swordsman to grab another squads gear like a spearmans troop. I was thinking with any army there is a wagon train and use that to collect better and unbroken arms. Than when you do make some spearman you can give them the better spoils or just sell tham at a marketplace. Now if you swordsman defeat an enemy swordsman squad you then can grab equipment to replace the inferior or broken equipment if you so choose. Not always better equip just not broken.

Like I said it would be hard to implement but it would add a whole new lvl to combat. You would have to weigh the pros and cons of taking you vastly supeior armed squad against huge mobs with the chance they will win, loot your corpses then use the weaponry or armour against you in another battle. Would make you think twice aboust some battles and would add a new dimension to your whole empire. Instead of spending time and resources researching and build new armour and weaps you just concentrate on making huge mobs and getting your gear that way. Both ways would require time and resources but it is just a different means to an end.

Anyone who is reading all this text I salute you :)

Or maybe just find one really decent weapon of slightly better quality then what they have and give it to the leader of the army. The leader (General/Champion) can then decide wether or not to keep it and use it or give it to his people so they can research it and try to figure out how to make more.

That follows along the line of X-Com. Another great game by the way. Another good idea for high birth rate and low rate of learning. just capture enemy tech and make it your own.

The whole idea I was thinking of was to send your units out into the field for a long period of time so they can't get back to friendly territory to resupply. They then use the enemies weaps and armour against them but it doesn't mean that the enemies equip is any better. So long as your unit is trained to use them. A swordsman isn't going to use a bow and arrow to any great effect.

Just think though if a unit was out in the feild in enemy territory long enough there woulb be a chance that all there originall equipment would be broken or lost. They are using armour and weapons from the people they are invading and as a result they may be better equiped for fighting or maybe not.

Also any equip they can't use or is of lower quality they could sell for a little money to help with the cost of war or they could use the equip as a resource and say melt all the bronze weapons down and make stautes for the people. There is alot you could do with this.

I don't expect this idea to be implemented right away because I imagine there would be alot of gameplay issues but it would be great to see in an expansion or a mod.
