If SSD keeps the current research system as is (which I'm still hoping they don't) it would be useful to have the techs display their colors when you actually select them on the breakthrough screen, so that you can determine whether to get the super-rare one now or tempt fate again.

It would also be nice to have an idea of what techs might immediately be unlocked after finding that tech

Two things I like to add.
Research screens should be colour coded as mentioned in the opening post.
But I also want the Continue Civilization and the New Goal button to change places. Reason is, end turn button is on the right and usually all, ok buttons or yes or agree buttons are on the right too. And continue current research button is similar to those button, while the new goal button is similar to a no or disagree and change button.
Thus I choose the wrong one all the time.
