Just asking for your thoughts

I just finished watching the latest Naruto Sh. episode, I have been waiting for 5 years to see this and thought, is there any way a PC based RPG version of this series could be done? I understand there are Licenseing issues to be dealt with but I really think that the depth of the story and characters could make a really cool game. there are many platform based fighter style versions of the series, and 1 RPG version that I am aware of but I like my PC games better and think a better job could be done on a PC. Any ideas for and against I would like to disscus, I am looking at you STARDOCK!!

Don't look at Stardock. They are not a video game company, they are a... umm... a... what are they again? I'm going to go with a utility software company (but that might be wrong) because they program tools and eye candy like Object Desktop. What ever they are, computer games are a secondary priority.

Stardock makes games because:
A. They want to make games.
B. They can afford to take the time to make games they want to play themselves.

Combined with the fact that they are still a small company, they don't have the time or resources to be jumping around making a game for every request made (can any company do so?). If you must go bug someone, bug the people already making the Naruto games.

Thanks for your bile, I was hoping that a decent devlopment company might think there was an idea there. most of the companys that make games based on the series have no interest in designing games for the PC that was might point. again thanks for your circular logic, I will make a note DW and not waste your companys time!

What a useful post.....

A Naruto-Universe  game that I would enjoy playing would be kind of like My Life as a King.  My life as as Kage LOL.  You play as the Kage of one of the Hidden Villages and devise the proper teams to take on challenges, train Ninjas and maybe you can play the missions once you've sent people out, too.  Although I don't see you using Naruto Characters.  Maybe you are founding a new Shinobi village...

Hm, doesn't seem like Stardock's kind of thing, personally.

I like Naruto also but I think it is hard to make a really good game based on it on the story line. It is difficult to simulate all the powers in such a way that pleases the fans as well. Besides we already know what happens (g)!

I like the idea of using the world but new characters.

Now I would love to see a balltechess type of game with the different characters that might be fun.

My appologies. It appears that... I over reacted.

When you said "...I am looking at you STARDOCK!!", I took offence at not only the rudeness of the statement, but also the arrogance that statement implied. If you had used the statement "I would love to have input from you guys at stardock!!", I would not have reacted.

I'm going to leave this thread and let stardock defend themselves (if they care to do so).

DW I'm pretty sure we all agree that licensing Naruto's IP is outside of Stardock's MO.  Besides someone else has those rights anyway...

Nothing can compete with WoW right now, it's a mistake to try to go head-on against it. Look at AoC and WAR (and WAR was based in a pretty important and sucessful franchise).

I don't understand how WoW got so popular. Of the MMO choices I had available to me in 2004 it was the worst one.  Dark Age was far superior.. I think it was just the timing.  It came out just as people were getting computers that could handle that kind of game, and broadband was becoming ubiquitous.

Might be a good idea, but Stardock are not going to be making something like this any time soon.  For a start franchise games like this gome at a price and SD have no history of doing it.  Also they have a timetable of games to make stretching well into the future, by which time it is lkely that someone else will have done it.

You may not like WoW (I know I don't like it), but design wise it was far superior than Dark Age and than anything else that existed in the market at that time (and that exists today btw).

It also achieved something no other MMORPG achieved before: go mainstream. Before WoW, there was a pool of MMORPG players that was more or less constant (growing very slowly), and players would only move from one game to another, but WoW managed to make a looot of new people play MMORPGs.

A bit thin skined arn't you? That is the problem with the world, too many over sensitive people running around getting offened at the stupidest things.

Back on topic. Never heard of this show but if it is not too 'Animeish' (guys running around with swords 4 times thier size and small annoying kids running around screaming at the top of thier lungs every time they speak) then I might check it out.

I seriously doubt a MMO based on a little known Anime show is going to compete with WoW in popularity.

I don't think Naruto can compete with WoW, but calling it little known is misinformative given that Google and Yahoo list Naruto as one of their top 10 searches this year (Google in entertainment and Yahoo in global).

Not that timing didn't help, because I'm sure it did, but I think there's more to it.  I started playing during the beta, and at the time, I was also playing EverQuest and Final Fantasy XI.  I've also played EverQuest II, Ultima Online, and D&D Online when it cost money.  I cancelled my WoW account earlier this year (just taking a break, I'll reactivate eventually), and occasionally play the free version of D&D Online.

Here's my viewpoint.  I played Everquest for a year and a half, and the highest level character I ever had was 12.  In FFXI and EQII, it was level 16 in 9 months.  I don't remember how far I got in UO, but it wasn't far.  None of these games were very "solo friendly", which was my main style of play, because finding other people to play with took serious time and effort.

WoW comes along, and not only is it possible to reach the level cap on your own without serious difficulty (though I wouldn't call it easy, exactly), finding a party seemed a lot less hassle if I needed one.  That meant the people that wanted quality raid content had it easier as well.  Compared to the other MMOs at the time, it was significantly easier to jump into the action.  Combine that with Blizzard's ability to create interesting, balanced content, and you have a recipe for success.

I was playing EQ when I discovered WoW and I'll tell you woW was a breath of fresh air compared to EQ1. EQ 1 was tedious and just not very fun at all. I played Wow for almost two years after that (from Beta on up) until I got a character to level 60 then due to the focus on raids which were usally boring as hell just setting around twittiling your thumbs while a raid was put together. Then having to deal with the anally charged players who were running the raids who think thier stuff don't stink. It was just no fun. So I quit to look for other MMO's. Went through many. Currently play DDO VIP and LOTRO.

I am thinking about going back to WoW because my friends tell me it is much different now than it use to be. However the fact that the Alliance can play a Shaman and the Horde can play a Paladin puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I was not talking about a MMO style game, I was talking about a RTS/TBS style game . In the shadow of Elemental and Company of Heroes. Might just have to wait for the MOD features of Elemental to try to make this happen. I thank you all for the positive feedback, and to the others, yes the world is flat!
