Game goes from normal speeds to slow

Hi everyone, I have been playing this game for quite awhile. I have always noticed my framerate dropping gradually throughout the game. For example, when I start a new game, my framerate is very smooth and there is no lag. I can increase game speed to x2, x4, x6, etc. without any lag.

However, during mid-game, the framerate will start to drop and I cannot continue using the x4 game speed as it will get very laggy, forcing me to use x2 game speed. The framerate will continue dropping until even the x2 game speed is unusable.

My systems specs surpass the game's system requirements as well. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this problem? Many thanks =D

Get a faster processor - or somehow convince the developers to implement multicore usage.

Sadly, it's only using a single core, thus the specs told at the games box won't give any real idea about what is necessary.

With a core i7 975 it's sometimes possible to switch to x2 speed later into the game on medium sized maps, just to give you an idea of real minimum requirements.

It's natural. As your progress through a game more and more things have to be done by your computer, and thus it slows it down. You can't do anything about it except get a better computer, and even top-notch comps slow down on large maps.
