Adventure!!!

I really like the idea of Adventure techs, and if they could some-how focus on small armies, on gathering a small party of heroes that would be great.

For instance, If I focused Primarily on Adventure techs, I would like it to feel some-what like a game of Fire Emblem, or an RPG-ish similar to that with small focused armies that can sometimes gain fodder as backup (in this case from your own kingdom) ... and where, instead of necessarily having to research equipment, your small adventuring war-party is mostly equipped with Rare Items found in chests/dungeons/caves/old city ruins ... and perhaps the occasional wandering vendor of some-sort. (at least the Heroes/Adventurers) ... perhaps even the adventuring techs allow for you to bring along better lock-picks or trap-disarmers, to make the dungeoneering a bit easier.

Not sure how much sophistication is going to be placed into the Adventure branch ... but having its own Catagory!! is a really good sign, I like it  .

I have basic ideas for three basic lines of tech for the adventuring tree. One being Hero specialization/item gathering/dungeoneering (stuff ive been talking about), another line for Magical Monster slaying and/or Taming/Recruitment (learn to talk with Dragons or Groglocks), and the third line being Master Quest, probably unlocking ancient relics and powerful magical tomes along the way.

Adventure, excitement...  a Jedi craves not these things...

But  a jedi  should be above  "cravings".   That doesn't  mean he should not work for it.

This could be tough on balance, but I like it :)

I would love to see a battle between a 10 man adventuring party with master spells and skills versus a 2000 man army with pikemen, swordsmen and archers.

Commence battle!

hmm, im pretty sure the 2000 man army would win .... BUT if you recruited a friendly village and have a 200 man militia, and you well-equipped them, you would have much better chances ^_^

That being said, in Dragon Age using only a lv 12 tank in Juggernought armor and a lv 11 Healer Mage, I was able to defeat a High Dragon of sorts (big ass dragon) xD

also, 20-30 man patrols of ferelden soldiers are sliced through with relative sport. (with party of 4)

Well ... when you said a 10 man party of max-level adventurers, using master spells ... I agree such a condition would be interesting vs an army of 2000. as you said, COMMENCE BATTRE!

I also still hold the statement that the effectiveness of an elite party to be exponentially increased by the aid of even small militias (to detract fire from the heroes)

I'm in favor of powerful heroes.

Hmm Adventure & Magic sounds really powerful together. Some heroes plus powerful spells actually sounds too fun and exciting compared to raising a city and improving an army....Would have to skimp on Warfare and Diplomacy (Civilization is needed for a large population which is needed for techresearch which in turn is needed to research Adventure & Magic.) but that's simply the price you have to pay.

It sounds quite fun but balancing this on all mapsizes is gonna be really hard. I'm happy that Civilization is a must no matter what though so there will always be cities to conquer

The main thing I'm concerned about is that it will be too easy to go that route. Blast enemies with (the Sovereigns) damage spells and finish them up with the heroes spells and combat power. Then add in a healing spell that easily heals a hero with good armor and it's Alt plus QQ (Hotkey to quitting the current game in WarCraft III.)
