Finally, after almost 20 years of waiting. New X-Com games have been confirmed. Just as I said in another post a few weeks ago 2K Games is doing a shooter version and Firaxis is doing a traditional turn based X-Com game. Man I'm drooling already. I'm a HUGE X-Com fan. If you've never played one of the classic X-Com games now is a good time to get into them.

Indeed. I can't wait. I'm not too excited about the FPS shooter version but Firaxis is a great game company so I'm more then confident they'll do a killer job on a traditional turn based remake.

I couldn't get into X-Com Enforcer. The FPS aspect killed it for me. It's not X-Com if it's a FPS. Without research and stealing alien Tech it doesn't feel like X-Com to me. There was also a X-Com flight sim called X-Com Interceptor that wasn't bad

I never got the opportunity to play X-Com, but any new turn-strategy is great by me. I can't wait to see this develop. ^_^

Is this going to be a TBS strategy?

Oh i totally agree, the beauty of X-com was the strategy. Destructible enviroments and the vunerability of your troops always kept the heart pumping. I agree about stealing alien tech. Showing up to that first battle with alien technology you can almost feel the fear of the alien scum

Sounds like a pretty vague confirmation there.

Yeah, the story said that they were just rumours, unconfirmed by either studio... it's a little early to get excited....

What I AM excited about is Elemental ;)

You know how many developers tried to make a successful X-com sequel and failed, do you? I keep my fingers crossed, though :).

i played the first two and they were great (first was the best, since i did not like the underwater setting).

then i played the forth and fith title and they sucked big time (especially the story)

Well hopefully Firaxis doesn't doesn't pull what they did in the remake of Colonization.  I thought that was terrible.  I love the first x-com though!

Well it was a remake of Colonization... and little else. More like an update using their CIV IV stuff. I am hoping a new X-Com will be just that, new and be strategy. Not interested in an FPS at all.

no way.. I still play ufo defense occasionally when i'm bored.  Best games ever.

Firaxis hasn't confirmed yet, no. But 2K did.

This is the important info from the post.

Such a scenario appears to have been confirmed this week, when Superannuation dug up the resume of a 3D artist who worked for 2K Australia from January 2007 until April 2008. The resume lists the artist as working on two projects during that time: "Bioshock (Xbox 360, PC Game)" and "X-Com (Xbox 360, PC Game)."

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that 2K Boston is working on a new X-Com game of some sort, with a shooter spin-off being a strong possibility. As far as a second turn-based X-Com game from Firaxis is concerned, it would be the stuff of old-school gamers' dreams. And, as Fallout 3's massive sales proved, a critically acclaimed reboot of a classic franchise can reap massive rewards.

2K has been trying to hide the fact that they are re-booting X-Com for a long time now but Ken Levine has dropped a lot of hints. It's all part of their marketing strategy. They know how huge a X-Com remake will be and they are already trying to build hype.

Their remake of the classic "Sid Meier's Pirates" was awesome.

Well, if true, there goes any chance of my developing a social life in the next five years.

I hope it's good!

And I hope it's based off 3!  :D  I loved apocalypse!

It's a question whether they will be able to capture that good ol' feeling of suspense when hunting aliens in dark alleyways... the "oh crap" moments which UFO Defense and TFTD managed to create even though they were turn based.

UFO Afterlight is the only non-brand sequel to X-com that has been worth a damn, in my eyes, but that one is actually pretty good.

Still, another X-com is good news. But I do echo Red1939's sentiment...

Yes, like opening a door and finding a Chryssalid with the last of your AP for the turn.  Next turn, you have two of the suckers. :P

The prequels (Afterlife and Aftershock) were kind of OK, too. But Afterlight is the best of the three being closest to that X-Com feeling. I encourage everyone to give the demo a try (you can find it at the official site).

There's another game called UFO: Extraterrestrials, check it out Here. The graphics are a bit dated, but when it comes to game-play and strategic options in battle and research, it's the most faithful X-Com remake I've found to date. The Ufo: Afterlight series is pretty good too though.

Ohhh They are doing a Sequel. Just found out about it. Check it out too Here!!!

Completely agree.
