Item economy

All these items, and so few choices of what to do with them.

Do I really want my scout to keep a ring of +HP?

No, but I have no choice to trade it, bank it, or sell it.

I'd like to see a vault repository for special magical items like MoM had. You could store some items in a vault until you decided to give it to a hero or someone.

I'd also like there to be some kind of open market or Trader's Guild. Where you can sell magical items for gold... but they might end up in a random hero's or even another Empire's hands. It is an open market after all with lots of buyers and sellers. Likewise you might find something good that was discovered on the market or that an opponent decided to sell off for quick gold.

These could be building enhancements - Vault as part of the Palace. Bank could be an alternate improvement for the economy and item storage. Guilds can be independent organizations (how is your relationship with them?) or a building improvement.

But one way or another I really want to be able to manage our items!

If we have magic items we do not want, perhaps let us crush them into some magic crystals which could be used like essence.

hmm, distilling un-wanted magical items into essence is an interesting idea, but perhaps would deter the dev-team from creating rare weapons that are difficult to find + mediocre weapons that are relatively common to find. Personally I would rather have plenty of hidden magical weapons, with the really good ones being really rare. It would be an advantage to someone that decided to invest valuable resources in dungeon-storming and questing, as opposed to expansion and conquest.

if however, they could all be distilled into essence, wouldn't the potential be too great for exploit if there were plenty of magical weapons lying around (even if most would only give maybe +1 essence when distilled, or have a 50% chance of doing so, or giving none at all)

This makes me think of an interesting post-battle screen for the victors. Including Equipment scavenged, and Prisoners taken.

Crush 'em into some crystals or sell them. Clean and simple.

one of the features supposedly directly inherited from MoM is magic item creation (last I heard anyway) so once SD starts to give us the features surrounding that (I suspect sometime after they give us any magic at all)  we will have a better idea of what we can do with magic items we are not currently using.

Im sure there will be a global item bank to store up to, say ... 50 magical items (maybe less). I don't see a need to physically transport them across the globe. Simply if they are equipped onto units, and those units are defeated in battle, the enemy gets those magical items.

I definately like the idea of an item market across empires, or at the very least be able to offer items from your vault on to the bargaining table with other empires.  The only problem is assigning objective values to certain magic items, and having the AI respond to those values intelligently.  It can be done, it's just a matter of whether the dev team has time for it.
