[0.255] Out of memory.

Have had a few out of memory crashes, here is a debug.err, http://ifile.it/xj1lbdt/debug.err and a Dxdiag http://ifile.it/xckj3tz/DxDiag.txt

It seems to happend after a while, about 200? turns, and happends to me each time.

Happened to me too after a lot of turns. Igot the window "Out of memory" and a window "C++" which stayed empty...until everything CTD. (See image)

A few turns before it happened, images of Black Widows and Trolls were no longer visible in their medaillon when I got the battle window (spiders attacked my caravans almost every turn).

And so the end of the debug file is thousands of the same line telling me:

Debug Message:  WARNING: (CD3D9Renderer) ::CreateTextureFromFile failed to auto generate mip levels for texture: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Elemental\Gfx\Medallions\BlackWidow_Medallion.png.  Attempting to use 1 mip level.
Debug Message:  ERROR: (CD3D9Renderer) ::CreateTextureFromFile failed to create a texture.
Debug Message:  Texture file name: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Elemental\Gfx\Medallions\BlackWidow_Medallion.png  Mip levels: -1  Usage:0

With Black Widow sometimes replaced by "GiantClothed" or "Fertile_Plains"

The debug file seems to big to be sent to pastebin.com...so I had to cut it. But the end was just thousands of lines of the 3 variations of the 3 lines above.

Debug file:

Same here, but after 2k+ turns, virtual memory used was 1.7 GB and the Ram size varied between 200K and 460K. It finally crashed, with looping sound. Was running in windowed mode. Here are my prefs.ini and debug.err. Unfortunately, it didn't save the crash dump.

End of Dakkahun's quote

Am I reading that right? You were able to get 2,000 turns in? That's a HUGE accomplishment in its-self. You should be jumping for joy and praising the computer gods...lol.

I only got to around 50 - 100 turns before Vista x64 closed the program due to out of memory.

I used to have the same problem, not being able to get in more than 100 turns before I got an "out of memory" error.  After uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I was able to push a game to 500+ turns before I got bored.  It was the first time I chose to exit the game, rather than the game choosing to exit me. Might be a fluke but give it a try.

it seems there are severe memory leaks somewhere.

At Beta .24 I was getting 30 minutes of game time = CTD (Out of Memory)

At Beta .25  I was getting 15 minutes of game time = CTD (Out of Memory)

As of Beta .255  I am getting ???? = testing ongoing. :)

Opening the Design Units window burns 6+ MB each time

Ending turn with a unit selected burns a bit

Bringing up an info card burns a bit

Etc

Expect to have memory issues for a while, as they add stuff the C++ish-ness of the project pretty much ensures that not everything is deallocated properly.

They have fixed a few of the memory bugs, and they'll fix others as it goes along.

If, on the current build, you can save/load you can often save/quit-program/reload to reclaim a lot of the memory lost and thus be able to play longer.
