Getting rid of the Windows 7 included wallpapers

Getting rid of the Windows 7 included wallpapers

...a how to.

Skinners like to mess with defaults....we screw up our systems quite well doing it, too.

This one had me stumped.  I just could not get 'control' of the included folders in windows/web/wallpaper/  no matter what I poked and prodded.

The solution is a reg 'hack' to merge...and you can regain ownership of what are otherwise locked folders/images/etc.

http://www.herbystweaks.net/files/TakeOwn.zip

The only warning is that you are merging and thus altering registry entries...so if you are nervous about that....simply do not do it.

Included within the zip is a reversal option to restore your system to 'normal'.

Read the included text doc for details...;)

Hmm decent tip, for anyone who is in need of the diskspace. I've stopped worrying about stuff like this.. I used to tweak my OS all the way but in the end you always want to tweak it some more and end up going through a whole lot of trouble to gain.. well.. not so much. I'll probably slim down my Win7 install in the future using vLite (or whatever successor it gets) and wallpapers are a nice thing to safe space on. Not sure if it'll work with an upgrade version though

So named because you have to pull it off the road, pull off all the gravel, pull off any hair remaining . . .

Ah, but you're not supposed to tow... er, pull it behind your car, especially not on a busy freeway that gets bottlenecked somwhars up ahead... when the traffic gits ta flowing again there's you and a bunch of other frustrated motorists chomping down on bbq steaks.

;)

Speaking of BBQs, I just picked up a nice 4 burner one with a bonus side burner for the kettle and built-in stainless steel warming cabinet underneath. The shelf price was AUD$589.99, but I got it for $399, so I bought a swag of BBQ utensils to go with it... and I still had a decent bit of change from 500 smackers for meat and etc.  I've invited the extended family over and we're having a family barbie tommorow to break her in.

Hopefully it fine and :sun:

Um....where'd this thread fall off the rails?

This is a skinning site....so working out how to alter an OS GUI such as taking control of locked folders is of probable interest to those who skin.

Buggered if I can see where some tin can for burning snags is of any relevance....;p

Don't blame me!  Pirated by somebody other than me this time.... I just got lured by the onions & juicy steaks.

Be nice if 1080i was a regular res. ... I only use that now with my HD monitor and sometimes it gets a bit picky finding a good wall with the right stuff. Not saying much for regular walls included with win7 for that. But any and all HD's are good to go for me.

I did that with my XP and it wasn't about disk space, I'm definitely in no shortage of that. I tweaked it just so it would be useable; XP is just so god awfully ugly and explorer lacking in a lot of features. The problems comes when you have to reinstall and redo all those tweaks, gah so much work.

But XP is hosed so I get to upgrade to 7 and not have to worry about most of the tweaks, whew.

I absolutely agree. Highest res widescreen should be the default (2560x1600), you can crop for any other res from that, but trying to work up from a smaller size or even worse, non-widescreen, is just impossible without losing quality.
