Large Address Aware?

I've done some forum searching but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this question. I am hitting the 2gb limit on the sins process in my current game. (It probably has to do with running everything at the highest setting)

Current system:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Core i7 940

12gb ram

EVGA GTX295

Yes, if you reduce graphics, you do massively reduce the RAM amount which is being used. Setting all to lowest will result in Sins dropping down to about 650Megs...and it even does work for games currently running!

I've never seen that game to use more than 1.4x Gig though, which is within the 32bit limit.

I was playing a 5 star, 50 planet game of entrenchment. I was running with all the graphics options up as well as a volumetric explosions mod to improve the graphics of the weapons and explosions. If I load my saved game, it hits the limit in about an hour. Task manager reports the game process at 1.8gb of ram.

Truth be told, why have the high-res options, if there is a limitation imposed by the 32-bit application? Or, why not make two versions of the executable for 32 and 64 bit. Other games I've played have done that, probably to avoid hitting this issue.

Even with high rez, you shouldn't hit the 2gig limit using the default game of Sins without mods and without creating non-standard maps. Creating a 64 bit version will invalidate multiplayer as the 32 bit versions won't be able to play against the 64 bit versions. Any multiplayer game that has both versions must be a client-server based system (e.g an FPS or MMO) and not an RTS which relies on exact determinism for synchronization and minimizing network traffic.

That explanation makes sense regarding the different bit versions. I believe all the games that I've seen have both versions were client-server based.

I am going to try disabling the one mod that I have turned on (volumetric explosions) and see what that does.

When I was still running Vista x64, I recall playing a much larger map and not running into this cap. Although, I had changed the maximum virtual address space to 3gb instead of the 2gb default.

I turned off the one mod and still hit the 2gb limit in about 90 minutes after resuming my saved game. I turned down some detail from highest to high and was able to finish the 50 planet map. The memory utilization sat around 1.4-1.5gb with the settings turned down.

I'm slightly concerned about trying a larger map due to the memory utilizations on a mere 50 planet map.
