Demigod vs HoN

Demigod vs HoN

Ill be honest, I tried the HoN beta and its fun but I still believe Demigod is better. Even though Demigod has WAY less heros the heros have more skills. Also demigod has the citadel upgrades, flags, gold mines, and the idols. There are basically as many items (if you take the artifacts into account). So with all this why is Demigods community growing smaller and smaller and why do people prefer HoN?

You find it strange or annoying that your encountering Demigod fans on the Demigod forum? You two aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed, are you?

One of the most over-linked videos around. I guess I should be glad it wasn't a Rick Roll.

Well Well Well.

DG has bugs, peer-to-peer that leads to geographical lag and thus a smaller match opportunity.

DG doesnt have a competitive scene, no reliable ladder, no match-making.

DG has few itens, and even fewer r good "buys"

DG has a poor game interface and a poor/instable lobby. No reconect to game option, no casual friendly nor competitive friendly environment.

HoN on the other hand has an amazing interface, a kickass lobby, a casual and competitive friendly community. Several servers that will prevent lag 99% of the time, reconect to game if it crashes, several builds (with itens and skill progression, not end game skills). A single map (almost) that is balanced, a large pool of heroes that prevent imba heroes due to lack of countering. A functional friend list which allow u to find ur friend and ur friends game, an in-game/in-lobby voice chat, several in-game chats.

Still, HoN is on closed BETA, with constant updates and patches (and DG?). Several features r not even in game still, but they have been announced and the community knows they will be b4 the launch of the game.

Well, I'm pretty sure I forgott to talk about a bunch of stuff, but thats mainly it.

I remember 2 weeks ago, after the DG replays were patched in, and I decided to play a few games and put a replay or two on youtube. So I connected to DG and went to pacov's vent (I used to play with him and his buddies), well, I TRIED to play for 2 hours, I had something like 5 lobby crashes, 2 unplayable laggy games and finnaly me and pacov couldnt connect to each other in lobby, but on vent it was fine. I gave up and went to play HoN instead. To much trouble to play 1 game with my old gang.

Pfff. If DG had patches and a bug free (not 100%, I'm not crazy) I would still be here, its a kickass game, and thats why I roam the forums, in the hope of patches that makes me go "Oh man, I have to give this game one more shot". Thats it.

I was really embarassed by this and bummed out.  My buds came back and we just couldn't get anything going.

HoN has always been intended as a direct parrel to DoTA. It even has a lot of the same heroes such as pudge. The community is also much more hardcore and features most of dota's best, so yes, you'll meet a lot of a-holes and elitists. Sorry, it's going to be that way. It truthfully is a 100% carbon copy of Dota with few add ons and better graphics though, so..Of course, a lot of people wanted just that so I do not judge.

If I may make a humble suggestions however (I used to play Demigod a lot myself), try league of legends. It's the same type of playstyle as both HoN and Demigod. It's been released already (oct 27) and it's completly free (will be supported by fans that want to buy the collector's edition and microtransactions for skins, avatars, titles, and little asthethic things for your favorite heros/spells, NOTHING that effects competitive play such as heroes or even runes). They also have a lot of neat features like plenty of heroes, reconnect when you d/c, ect. Very few bugs and while a couple balance issues exist generally only hardcore internal testers know about them casually and it's all being worked on.

They also have a lot of cool little features, like persistant stuff for "you", the summoner. You choose two spells to use every battle ( 2 extra abilities in addition to the abilities of your hero) and have a mastery tree (they look like WoW talent trees) that effect any hero you choose. You also earn runes which basically serve as a way to tweak hero stats (you can stack on regen runes so your character has much higher regen on top of his crazy regen while someone else stacks movement speed or a mix of attack speed and crit) Basically I can get a bunch of defense stuff in my mastery and get some regen runes, pick Rammus (a tank type), and choose fortify + heal in addition to his character abilities one match and teleport and ignite the next match in addition to his character abilities. The heroes are all very interesting though and the items diverse and unique.

I know what I said might of sounded complex, but it's more stream lined and simple in actual practice. You can choose all the above during the 1 min hero select time when the game starts.

It's not perfect though, especially if you liked Demigod's high graphics. The graphics are more akin to WC3's art style which some may dislike. There's also currently only two versions of the 5 vs 5 map (winter and normal, basically the dota map with LoL perks like stealth grass) and a fast paced 3 vs 3 map. They're planning on adding more, though. They've already added 5 new heroes and plan on adding quite a few maps over the next week.

They're also working on PvE content such as hero defense maps (work together to survive waves of enemies) and progressive PvE ecounters similar to diablo (play with buddies and progress through groups of monsters and bosses with loot drops in various dungeons).

I left demigod for it and it captured my heart. The community varies greatly, but it's a lot better than HoN's and now Demigod's community. It's also enjoyable and lots of fun. Clan support will be in soon, already got a clan in the works. Give the game a try, you might be surprised. The only complaint I usually ever get is about the graphics, which is annoying but expected. Most of today's gamers are spoiled.. Gameplay > graphics in my humble opinion.
