[0.25][CRASH] On Startup

We're also getting random crashes that seem to be a timing issue with the downloading of the data.zip file. Please try a few more times to see if you get through, or if it always happens.

I was able to start it up after the third try.  A race condition/timing issue might explain the apparent randomness.  Thanks.

Not able to start on Vista OS home premium... after 5 tries i see it waits almost 4 seconds and crash anyway.

I froze when it was trying to create the world on my first play after the update.  2nd ran for a while but later froze (maybe 3-4 turns in).  Had to go to work so I didn't get test anymore.

Crash on startup for me too. I was playing Dwarf Fortress at the same time.

Crash on startup as well. Submitting a bug report now.

Immediately after installing .25, I was able to start it and play until I hit a crash reported in another thread.  However, each time I tried to start a new game after that, it crashed on the splash screen, with the windows message "Turn based fantasy strategy game has stopped working".  This is on Vista Home Premium. 

If I uninstall and immediately reinstall the game via Impulse, it still crashes.  If I uninstall with Impulse, manually erase the left over Elemental directories in My Games, Program Data, and Program Files, and then reinstall with Impulse, I can once again play one game before hitting the startup crash.

I'll submit the crash info to fogbugz.

I partially retract my earlier post.  The crash is not consistent, on my 4th try it started ok.

I had constant crashes while starting the game after updating until I let the intro play through completely. Since then it started fine strangely enough.

CTD for me happens about 3 seconds in.  Just as the intro is cranking up.  Haven't been able to get it to load successfully since 0.25, and installing Windows 7.

Update:  Off of a fresh boot and a few more false starts I was able to get in.

Oh hey I had the same issue as Iceman346.  Once I let the whole intro play through I didn't get any more crashes.

[.25][crash] I also crashed at "welcome brave adventurers" screen several times.  While trying to start Elemental with IE open to this form I get a blinking black screen with a "failed to initialize display" message.  All previous Elemental updates worked ok.
