Can't get online

Hello, I'm new, and I just got the game last week.

But I registered, and created a log in, and downloaded the update, but when I try to go online it say Ironcld needs update.

I've been telling it to run the patch setup, but  finished, the say updated, but still not work.

I don't know whats going on.

when you open impulse, on the righthand side of the toolbar is a button labeled "register product"

fill out the fields and click the button at the bottom labeled 'add registration'

this should then allow you to update, if it does not then you will need to email support at stardock.com with your details that you entered and explain the porblem to them

Hi,

what is impulse.exe? I like downloading updates on my computer. But I don't like "services" like Steam or other spyware on my computer checking, what is on my harddisk or sending information to other people, without asking.

Does it mean, I cannot get any updates to the game now?

Impulse is not spyware and is not required to be running in the background, however if you do not wish to use it, you will not be able to update the game.

Hello Kryo,

thank you for this information.

Could you please tell me, what the advantage of using a third-party-download tool is above using proven standard tools? Maybe I am just too ignorant to understand.

Regards

Alexander

The big ones for me are that you can check for updates on multiple programs rather than one at a time, and it doesn't require building an exe from the devs, so it takes less time to get a patch out.

If it's really annoying for you to use Impulse for updating because your only software on it is Sins, then you can install update and uninstall (shouldn't take too long). I don't think there will be a new patch anytime soon.

yes, download impulse... install updates... buy entrenchment (if you havent already) and then uninstall (untill next patch/diplomacy)

I understand your concerns CmdGabriel, but let me tell you I was very pleasantly surprised at impulse, concidering the very low standard steam set for that kind of product. Unless I want to use it I can hardly tell the thing is their (and this is on a low RAM laptop), and I haven't had any of the types of inconveniences I've had with steam (having to start the program through steam, being generally unresponsive etc.). Added to the great patches Sins has had sense 1.05, I think it is worth it to go outside your comfort zone this time.

I was skeptical about Impulse too, but it's actually pretty benign.  You don't need to let it run in the background; just load it up whenever you want to patch the game and then close out of it when you're done.  Aside from being part of their system for digital rights management (DRM), supposedly it makes patching more efficient and results in smaller downloads than what you might otherwise need for a patch.  (If the only copy protection this game has is having to use Impulse, I don't have a problem with it; I'd much rather have that then CDkilla, Securom, Starforce, or even having to put the DVD in the drive everytime I want to play.)
