[.24][performance] Just tried on laptop (Nevermind)

Laptop specs:

1.6 ghz Core 2 Duo

Geforce 7600 go graphics 256mb dedicated memory

2gb ram

Windows xp

Running at 1400x900 res

hp Pavilion DV9339us

Performance was good at the title screen and "normal" for the 8-bit splash screen.:) The screens where you choose your faction and enemy choices runs normal. Once the world is created is where it's bad. You can't see the map, just the ui. And from there back out to the main menu is choppy. Not sure if I meet the requirements with this laptop though. Edit: by the way the Nvidia driver I used was Just now downloaded at about 6pm.

Performance on my desktop seems normal except I get a warning about DirectX not working which might just be a windows 7 thing. I think Galciv II does the same thing if I remember correctly. Desktop has: 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM, Geforce 280gtx with 1gig RAM, and Windows 7 Release Candidate build 7100.

I hope this info helps.

The original post sounds like a driver bug (not that it's an old driver, just a buggy one), would you mind supplying a debug.err?  I believe that can help diagnose graphical oddities.

As you said, the DirectX error you get is due to using the Windows 7 RC. It's fixed in the RTM version.

Original poster here. An update.

This laptop that I have seems to be one of those Affected by the faulty chips by Nvidia that were put into HP laptops in the first half of 2007. It's not on the list for a free repair so I'll have to spend $400 to get it fixed if I decide to do so. My alternative is to take the laptop apart (Using the service Manual that I downloaded) and try to reseat the heatsink or get a new motherboard or new laptop.

I believe now that this "bug" was in-fact a symptom of the faulty HP/Nvidia construction and chip. Laptop is now dead.
