[bug] Stuck in main screen

Well it was the first time I run Elemental beta, I run it, got main screen , cursor turned into a feather and ... nothing ...

could not even close the game.

Rebooted PC , started it again and ... same probelm

After that I pressed Alt-Ctrl-Del and saw that Elemental tries to connect somewhere and my Comodo firewall askes me to allow or not, one I allowed it to connect everything went fine.

The problem is that since the game fully takes over the screen :) (even Alt-Tab and WinKey-Tab do not work) I could not see that window.

It might be considered "known issue" with firewall but just to be sure that it is additional sub case of it :)

Not really sure what your problem is.  Why don't you check the compilation thread to see if someone has already had your issue.  And yes, alt-tab and windows key doesn't work, and there are several start of game crash reports.

The problem is simple - if firewall asks to pass connection the game is stuck.

And since I can'tr see the question window...

I had the same problem and I have reported it. I can imagine though that its not easy to find among all the bug reports here.

I run the game in windowed mode in case of bugs like this.  There's an box in the options menu for this (you have to restart the game as well)

If your firewall app is hanging things up due to task-switch issues at startup, you can manually set windowed mode in the prefs.ini file located in My Documents\My Games\Elemental.

End of kryo's quote

I have also seen some games that connect to their servers on first startup, before any fullscreen work is done. That way you can deal with firewall popups first. In the final build, that might be a more gamer-friendly solution :)

In the final build the data will be local :p
