anyone know how to exit the program?

Esc doesn't seem to bring up any options for exiting the game.  I can't find any mention of an end game button.  I'm having to break out to Vista and shut the program down from the toolbar.

Escape should bring up an options menu.  If it doesn't, this is a bug, and you should file it as such along with relevant system reports.  Try looking through the threads first to see if there is an existing applicable thread to post in about it.

 

You can reach the same options menu by clicking the crown icon in the bottom left of the screen, then hitting "options" in the screen after that, and going to "Main menu" which should have an exit option.

I'm playing with the FamilyTree workaround for the CTD after the title screen, so I'm not at all sure what else is broken in my installation. But I had the same problem as the OP for a while. Something either fairly random or wholly unobserved by me happened, and ESC now opens the Options page, which has a button leading to the main menu & the Exit button. My best guess is that I just pressed ESC enough times that some digital gear settled into place...

If you go into the kingdom management screen there's a button that gets you to the main menu, where you can exit.

 

It's a beta...it's rough around the edges.

 

What bothered me the most was that the game doesn't minimize when it fires up and gets halted by a firewall and you can't ctr+alt+del to get task manager up, or get out of the game in any way.  You have to shut down and restart your PC.  I don't like when games assume full control like that and hope this changes.

In the options mode you can run the program windowed.  Then you can access your desktop from the tool bar without having to ctrl-alt-del to the task manager.

Yeah, I think the FamilyTree work around creates a totally screwy situation.  Esc doesn't do anything and I usually can't find the options button.  I'll probably have to wait until the next build before I can truly start helping with the Beta, since I'm not sure if what I"m seeing is bugged or just screwed up due to the work around.
