BETA woes

A thread to rant about crashes, etc

Disclaimer: not a bug report, just letting off steam if crashes and the like are getting the better of you ;)

So twice now I have played a game somewhat beyond the first stages, and both times it just hang :(

Had a couple of villages, a few units, major gold losses but overall things were going fine, until one village gained a level and I couldn't click the OK button in the message and nothing responded anymore, not even alt-tab. I ended up closing Elemental through the task manager. Grrr.

I have faith this will be fixed before long though :D

Are you ready to throw your keyboard because the Frog was right that the beta isn't fun? Post it here ;)

Well, at this point, Beta 1 is fun for me. It's the discovery of what is there, and how things work, and how far I can push things. If that isn't the sort of fun you have, and you need a "almost completely fleshed out" game, then you might want to come back in a few release cycles and check back.

BTW, is there a wiki site for use early sloggers to go to post our "how this works" or read other's tips on such?

I was expecting this. Frankly, your lucky. I can't even get the game to run. But, I submitted my bug report and am waiting for the issues to be fixed.

Well part of the point of a Beta is to find crash bugs and fix them, you can't really expect the game to be totally stable at this point. It's crashed a few times on me to, but it's still fun to a degree even thought it's basic I love the pewter minatures look.

I have had a few hang ups myself, same issue for one time. Another time I was just walking around and the building completed menu poped up, and froze my game. The Third time, I can't remember, I just know that it hanged on me somewhere.

It's not really getting me steamed I mean it's a very early beta, at this time I expected lots of crash bugs on different rigs so I'm not put of by this at all.

It will be a while before it's stable and anywhere near feature complete.

I like what I've seen by now... I was able to conquer something like 5 or 6 cities, buils 3 or 4 and then crash to Desktop two times. But having some fun between crashes, it's the goal ;) I'm still learning the mechanism of the game. I'm a programmer so I'll try to found more programming related bugs...

Yeah, be happy it runs.  I'm out until the next build because I have to use the familytree work around just to get past the intro screen and then its a weird version of the game where your units stick to enemy borders.

But it looks like it has potential!

I  feel your pain.   But thats what this Beta is for.   Helps catch those nasty hangs and memory issues before its too complex to figure out whats causing them.

Cheer up, I've been through much worse in terms of betas.

Take Mortal Online for example. It was so bad I had to contact VISA to get a refund on my CC. The company refused to refund me for a pre-order they hadn't delivered.

I've learned my lesson. I'll never pre-order a game again. I'll probably buy Elemental when it comes out, though! :D

Well I do trust Stardock to deliver a good product, they have a reputation to uphold :)

Plus I'm glad that I preordered, I was charged only 35 euros :omg:

Its running pretty well for me; I haven't run into any crashes or stuttering.  I have had some odd transparency issues with screens over text and some unit selection difficulty, but nothing crazy.

I went into Beta expecting not to enjoy the mechanics of the game--- rather, I was expecting to have fun watching the game itself evolve and grow.  That being said, almost everything works properly for me, and I haven't experienced any crashes ;-)  Any bugs I have found have pretty much already been reported.
