[BUG] Camera slowly shifting to the side

I don't think I have seen anyone else mention this bug, but I often got the camera to slide, only stopping doing so a while later. What I mean by slidding is slowly moving in one particular direction, even if I am not touching anything.

Note that this was on a laptop, where touchpads can be screwy on their own, but I don't think this was the case as the mouse cursor was not on any edge.

Hey I got this same issue.  I'm also on a laptop, but I was using a mouse to play. It would start/stop the slow sliding/scrolling without much indication of why it was doing it and both times it stopped while I was just trying to carry on and look around the map. Dxdiag LINK

If you have a unit selected and it moves the camera will follow. Is that what you mean?

No not really, it lasts 5-10 minutes and just scrolls very slowly in a direction until it reaches the edge of the map.  It keeps going the same direction while I'm selecting different units and telling them what to do and actually makes it really hard to do anything because the scrolling makes it hard to click accurately.

Edit: the two times it happened to me it scrolled in different directions and it MIGHT (not sure at all, but maybe) have started after I click+dragged the map to scroll in that direction.  i.e. I click+drag to scroll northeast and instead of coming to a complete stop when I'm done, the screen keep slowly scrolling northeast for 5-10 minutes until it randomly stops (click+dragging again doesn't stop it, it just continues from wherever I scroll to).  It definitely doesn't do it every time I click+drag and honestly I'm not even sure that's what starts it.  I click+drag because my mouse-to-the-edge-of-the-screen scrolling doesn't work.

I'm on a desktop and I've had the same problem. I've even watched it scroll so far to the left that I can't see the map anymore until I click and it snaps back to the left edge of the map as if it detected I was trying to scroll to far. But then it would continue to scroll back off the map. After a while (a minute? maybe two) it stopped doing it and worked correctly.

I just saw this issue as well. The camera started drifting slowly towards the upper-left, and I think it persisted even after I brought up the research screen. It ended after I click-dragged the map.

Sounds like this is some lagacy bug from GalCiv 2.

I can't be certain that their reusing code from GalCiv2, but it would be logical for them to reuse code if not broke rather than discard it without justification. Keep an eye on this bug, I thought this bug was squashed long ago. I rather like it to be dealt with sooner rather than later.

I experienced this bug also.  I'm playing in windowed mode on a laptop, using a mouse.  This happened immediately after I went to the options screen (I had just turned on 'draw grid' in the gameplay options screen).

Also - I just exited to the main menu and started a new game without exiting the program and the slow map shifting is still occurring.

I have the same bug as well. Vista 32-bit, Q6600, Nvidia 8800 GT, Logitech G15 keyboard.

Yeah I have a lot of scroll bugs, like others have posted.  Not scrolling, scrolling when I'm not at edge for a bit, scrolling a little in a random direction when not at edge, and scrolling in the wrong direction all together when at edge.

I have the same issue, but I found in my case that the scrolling fluctuated when I clicked on different unit tabs (actions, items, etc.).  If I left the item tag selected, the map drifted, but if I selected one of the others it stopped.  Then, if I selected items, it would start drifting again.

Same issue here on a desktop.  Click drag or edge of screen scroll to stop it.

Gunna chime in with seeing this bug as well.  The map likes to float sometimes for me in different directions, although a quick scrolling in and out seems to fix it.

While we're on the topic of scrolling, does pushing the cursor to the edge of the map to move it not work for anyone else?  If I want to see different sections of the map I have to zoom out and then zoom back in to the location I want to be at.  When trying to scroll with the edges it'll only move in one direction (like using the top left corner will only move me very slowly to the left, no up movement) or just not move at all.

EDIT: Found the answer in the bug compilation thread, looks like it's not even in game yet <.<

I have also now encountered this problem but only in one game so far, the camera moves fairly slowly in one direction even if your tring to add a building at the time doesn't matter what your doing or if anything else is moving. I could find no way to stop it. So I quit exited the game and started a new one. then it was ok, was making me feel a little sick.

I have the same bug but am on a desktop using a laser mouse...it mostly seems to happen during building placement for me, though.

I've been able to reproduce this.

Exiting out of the game then coming back in fixes it.

However, you may not get your kingdom to load when you get back in - only units and road :)

I've also had this problem.  I've seen similar bugs when a Mouse up event is lost because the player starts to drag in one area, but lets the mouse up inside a GUI element, so the map never gets the mouse up event that says 'stop panning'.  Don't know if that's what's happening here, but the symptoms are similar.

I seen this a few times... it aint that bad... it drifts a little from time to time. It aint as bad as GalCiv2 at the worse of times. ^_^

I also have this bug from time to time. As mouse scrolling isn't offically implemented yet, I think it will be cleared up once it has.

I have the same issue on my Dell Laptop, using a mouse. It just scrolls as far as it can go, so I don't see the map. After a little while it stops.

I have noticed this bug as well.  I have discovered the steps to reproduce it.  I'm posting them here so we have a record of them for whoever gets assigned to fix this.

Also, the testers can attempt the repro steps and verifiy that it reproduces for them as well.

Steps:

1. From main map, move mouse to around the center of the screen

2. Push down and hold the middle mouse button,  while holding down the button, move the mouse to the right side of the screen.  This will rotate the camera, but when the mouse is at the edge of the screen it will start to scroll.  Once it starts to scroll, stop moving the mouse and hold at that point.

3. Without moving the mouse, let go of the middle mouse button.

The map will now be stuck in scrolling mode, even if you scroll the other way.

Sometimes I can get it to snap out of the auto-scroll bug by rotating the camera and moving the mouse near the edges while I do so.

Can others verify this reproduces the problem?

Just had this bug happen myself, and could not get it to stop scrolling. I will try to reproduce the problem as you describe CodeCritter.

EDIT: Could not duplicate using the methods described. Moving the curser to the edge, with the middle button down, did not cause the screen to start scrolling.

EDIT 2: Still haven't been able to duplicate in Elemental..but strangely enough, it did happen to me in Galactic Civ 2..

This has happened to me as well but it's not sliding to the side it's sliding up as well. It's slid up four or five times on me while sliding down only once or twice.
