LANing

I heard at the PAX presentation (and on a dev post earlier this year, I think) that Stardock is going to host all multiplayer games for EWOM, partially due to the fiasco with Demigod earlier this year. However, there appears to still be some question about whether this is for all online games or for all multiplayer period (ie, essentially meaning no LAN play). Which is it? Could (or has) anyone from Stardock comment?

While few things (not including this) could dissuade me from buying EWOM (which I've already preordered), I am, for example, not buying Starcraft 2 because of this very same issue. Getting one person playing online through some firewall setups can be hard enough, getting 7 or 8 is just a potential disaster. Additionally, at some point upkeep on the EWOM servers might no longer justify itself and the community will be cut off like Bungie.net.

I realize multiplayer gamers aren't the core focus of most Stardock games, but please let us have this one minor victory! :-)

Maybe you missed the post directly below yours at the time of your posting.  Never fear though, I will link it for you!

The short, short version is that you can host your own servers, and that the central Stardock servers don't have to be involved.  What does this mean?  Lan play.

Haha! I can't believe I missed that. I even double-checked after I started writing my post. I blame the PAX Swine Flu, which I was lucky enough to contract :-)

That's amazing news, though. This whole thing here keeps getting better and better!

The main point is that you don't need to worry so much about lag in a TBS.  Demigod needs to by synched really well so that's why they tried the system they did.  There's no reason not to do what they are doing with EWOM, but obviously they are giving you your own options as well
