Hello everybody,
This post is about bestiary and modding. In some previous post, many presented bestiary ideas and capacity, sometimes associated to very large creatures type, like undead. I think a good way of handle it is by use of template. A template is a set of capacities, modifications and/or caracteristics of a creature. Futhermore a template can herits from a parent template.
For example, we have the undead template with sensiblity to life spell, resistance versus death spell (it is only an example). Then 2 templates heritis from this first templates: zombies and wraith. The zombies have for modification high PV, but low attack/defense/mouvement (and an very high hunger for brain, but this has no effect in game ). The wraith template will have ethereality (so no equipement) and steal life capacity. These template can be apply to already exist units in game. Imagine you are in battle and many of your units are dead. Not a problem for necromant master like you. You cast a spell on your heavy infantery, and a heavy infanterie zombie awake on the battlefield. This can handle all type of creature to make zombie. We also can imagine some template aren't compatible with others (like elemental and undead).
Another interest with template is a way to handle somes aspect of modding. You think the undead must see in darkness, all of them. So you only have to modify the template undead to add the capacity to all creature with the undead template. More efficient than search all undead creature in the game, isn't it?
Template can also be used to determine inventory slot. We have a basic human template for classic inventory slot. But if you use a spell to mutate one of your champion and give him four arms. He gain the four arms template and can wield four weapons.
Many things must be determined with the use of template (like possibility to have many templates apply in same time with opposed effect, which prevails?), but I think he can be a great tools for modding and possibility in game.
What do you think of this?
PS: sorry for my english.
